Interesting postscript to this story, kinda. Was looking around on the Vancouver craigslist, thinking there might be some good used deals up there. Found this:

Wow, what a remarkably similar story, and frame, and picture even!! Wonder what the deal is? All out scam? Couple frames "fall off a truck", and now someone is trying to sell them without attracting too much attention by spreading it out geographically?
