    @Rusty -
Conditions right now are on the sucky side. We had a shitload of snow earlier in the month, then it rained hard last Sunday. It’s been quite warm the last few days and rain forecast tonight before it starts cooling off and snowing again for the foreseeable future. Unlikely Summit chair will spin while you’re here but be sure to ask every Mtn Host (green jackets) you see when it will - they love that question.

Might be enough new snow coming to make the Cone worth skiing by next week. The uphill passes are basically a liability release, which have been deemed unenforceable by Oregon Supreme Court. Your regular pass also includes the unenforceable release so I wouldn’t bother with the uphill passes. You can access the easy way by bombing the gully from Leeway and bootpack up the backside of the cone, or go a little farther down and spot the entrance thru the trees. Oh yeah, nobody cares if you hike the cone.

This week is Spring Break for Oregon schools and maybe other states - lot of out of state lates in the parking lot. So there’s a lot of “dynamic gate skiing” required around the gapers thru at least Saturday.

For dining, I personally like Barrio (tapas) but there’s a lot of other great places as well. If you want to take the Missus someplace nice, try Jackalope Grill. Recommend Crux for beer - much less focus on IPA there. For liquor, Stihl has a good selection of whisky and Crater Lake Distillery makes good gin and vodka.

Ive been watching the weather & our 1st ski day being Friday we hopefully will get lucky with a few inches. From there on it looks pretty decent. We are pretty good @ making the best out of anything. Doubtful hopes for the summit but NW will be new to me so hopefully itll have no issues. Leave it to me to schedule this for spring break tho.

Appreciate the reply TBS! All good info.

^^^Strongly encourage you to put down the safety bar (“footrest”) when riding NW or Outback. There’s been multiple occasions this season where they do an emergency stop and the chairs launch ten feet in the air. Last time for me was two weeks ago on OBX - thought I was gonna part company with the chair and get launched into space.

Haha. Magic skiers know full well to put bars down. Weve been joking this year that the mountain has been out of sorts because we currently dont have a broken lift.

This might actually be whats luring me in.

IMO Jackalope Grill is overrated. Try RBC for steak/americana or BarRBC for tapas. Zydeco for kinda-cajun. The Drake Downtown. All more upscale. Spork is now a classic Bend stop. Wild Rose for Northern country Thai. Ken's Artisan Pizza opened up across from Deschutes...haven't tried it yet but supposed to be some of the best 'za in town...probably quite a wait. Nancy P's Bakery is the yum. Some good live music with the True Loves (quality soul/funk) at Volcanic Friday night (all ages show) and a mtn bike film fest there on Saturday night. Enjoy your time in Bend.

Hola Lady La Niña Oregon Winter 2024-2025

Did someone say Spring Break crowds?
Funny, we fled Oregon for Spring break to our northerly neighbors and …

It’s sure been a hell of a weather roller coaster though. Full on pow on Sunday morning, torrential rain on Sunday evening, all day rain on Monday, wonderful groomed proto corn and 55F on Tuesday, marginally better proto corn and 60+F today, and expecting winter back on Friday [emoji38]

Also … I sure miss me some Wild Rose and Ale Apothecary.

Nice day on the hill. Not as crowded as I would have expected but no complaints from the locals. Got to love the early Pine ups.Back bowls held some nice stashes.

RBC was 100% worth the hype

Sunday delivered at the hill, great sunny laps and summit lift opening was so fun.

Powdr decides they aren’t gonna sell Mt Brokenchair after all.
IOW, nobody wanted to pay anything near the asking price

IOW, all the bidders factored in all the deferred maintenance and backlog of needed Capex that Powdr hasn’t been worrying about?

    More or less…
I doubt Vail even made an offer - too much other shit going on right now.
Alterra likely took a hard look against the upside and either said “we wont insult you, but thanks for the conversation while we hiked out of NWX” or they lowballed them. The first option is the smart one.

Will see what Powdr wants to do next. They plan to make NWX more resilient and upgrade power generation, so maybe that will help. And very soon we see what they do with pass prices.

I doubt Bachelor fits into a vail or alterra business plan wo slope side hotels and restaurants. I am glad it is more of a locals mountain and prefer that type of vibe.

Both Vail and Alterra did an on-site tour. Steven’s Pass and Arapaho Basin have little to no lodging owned by the resort.

I think it’s more like this guy sez in another forum

“Ski Area CEOs probably see the price tag on Bachelor and look at it the same way we look at the guy on Facebook Marketplace selling a '95 Tacoma with 400,000 miles for $20k.”

Meadows season passes on sale now, $949 renewing adults. Will prices do anything to make it less crowed? Their current $150 day tickets kind of makes it insane to do anything but get a pass, and then once you have a pass, why not go as much as possible?

ddocky, a $15 increase from last year will have zero impact on crowding
go midweek, or pray for shit conditions so everyone stays home
