I agree that’s a lot of money for uphilling, plus not great ski terrain, but I bet it sells out within hours on the 12th.
I hope it doesn’t because I don’t want to see other resorts jump on the uphill money train.
In comparison, steamboats uphill pass is $40. You’re only allowed off hours (4:30 pm to 9 am) but you can basically ski anywhere you want. I’ve paid for this pass the last two seasons for the handful of times I’m there in the winter.
When life gives you haters, make haterade.
I do snowbasin and it's 4am - 8:00 am on days it's open on a single route. It's free, I love it and appreciate it.
Would gladly pay for the 4:30-9AM anywhere option but if I were a snowcat drive i'd hate having those people all over the mountain in the middle of the night.
Of course cheaper (free) uphill is always better but I would actually like to see Utah resorts charge for uphill. I'd gladly pay to uphill during daylight hours on groomers at any of the resorts around SLC. Maybe the resorts having some revenue from the uphill would encourage more access than we have. When you compare the uphill access with the interest in uphill, we could certainly use more uphilling areas. Shoutout Nordic Valley for their great access and Solitude for having the only reasonable uphill policy in the Cottonwoods.
^Agreed. While having it for free is of course the best case scenario, I’d happily pay for morning/evening uphill access at any of the four central Wasatch resorts.

Are there any groomers in LCC that don't stare up the barrel of an avalanche path...? It seems like it would be more of a pain in the ass to manage / enforce opening / closing based on avy conditions than it's worth. Brighton does it with Milly, but that uphill route is pretty straightforward avy wise afaik.
If you want to skin for groomers the east has pretty amazing policies, but idk if many people are skiing the cottonwoods to skin for groomers...the fact that alta groomed during COVID was amazing, but that felt like a once in a lifetime experience...
Ouch

ooof. Going to be bleak to get more terrain open between now and new years. or as the kids say, it's inversion szn.
Side note - my pivot 12 heel blew up today when I fell on some ice and rolled over my ski lol.

Last few days' model runs are looking a lot more promising. If nothing else it should be enough to keep the inversion at bay.

SLC Olympics v2 is going to be just great:
"In the 15 years following the Salt Lake Olympics, CNBC reported Utah saw its skier days shoot up 43%, hotel and lodging traffic grew by 70%, and visitor spending increased 66%."

I hear that a new Four Seasons Resort will be built at DV. It depends upon your perspective, but "just great" are not the words that come to my mind. ...unless accompanied by![]()

Eh, it's a really nice place to be (when it isn't inverted and so long as the lake doesn't dry up and render our property worthless.) I can't blame others for wanting to be there for the same reasons we did. Social media is more to blame than the olympics for its' exploding popularity.
I also think we can thank the LDS religion for keeping it somewhat under wraps for as long as it did. Without the Mormons, the Wasatch Front would just be a bigger Boulder, CO.
The 2002 Olympics were a great time.
Fack. That article is fluff. And it’s ripped off from deseret

In March, the Utah Legislature, with Salt Lake City and Salt Lake County support, passed legislation allowing the creation of a downtown sports, entertainment, culture and convention district. Under the law, the city could raise its 7.75% sales tax rate one-half of a percent — pushing it to 8.25%. The council unanimously approved the tax increase in October, which takes effect Jan. 1, 2025.
The tax hike is anticipated to generate $1.2 billion over the 30-year life of the participation agreement, $900 million of which would go to SEG.

So. City sales tax goes up. And most of it goes to the billionaire sports ball team owners.

Kill all the telemarkers
But they’ll put us in jail if we kill all the telemarkers
Telemarketers! Kill the telemarketers!
Oh we can do that. We don’t even need a reason
Without any doubt? The Mormons settling here has done the most for making this place crowded. Great breeders, them. If they didn't settle here I'd guess the wasatch front would have a significantly less population. The miners would still have come, the euros would have still created a few ski areas from the old mining claims...
