Mountains Not For Profit - film about community hills

So this film's playing tomorrow in town. Figured I'd check it out since they want me to sit on a discussion panel to speak after the showing (so it's free for me, ha!). My topic of discussion will be the origin story of Friends of Shames. Kind of cool how this place (and turns all year) were part of the story.

Anyway, wonder if anyone else out there has seen this film and their thoughts. I don't have a link to a trailer or anything but here's the local FB post about it:

I think the trailer is all that’s out there until it’s premiered at the three resorts showcased.

Black Mountain of Maine is my home hill, but wasn’t around during filming. We had a poor snow conditions year last year even by EC standards.

I thought it was a pretty good little flick. It was cool to see some other little non-profits and the importance to the communities that they service. It gave me a chance to spew out the whole Friends of Shames saga, along with one of the founders of Shames Mtn Ski Corp )SMSC), and the current My Mountain Coop Board Chair. It was extremely cool to hear from numerous new arrivals to the area (like 10 years and newer), who had no idea of the original SMSC trials and tribulations - including a new one for me. The road to the ski hill may have never got built but for a timely trip to the Terrace area from the Premier of the province at the time. Apparently Van der Zam, gets in a chopper and was flying around. He gets taken towards the proposed Shames area and someone points out the chunk of road that needs to be built in order for the ski area to proceed. He immediately says yep, let's build it and thus Shames happens.

History and context are important for people to know, cool things don't happen without heavy lifting by lots of people.

Watched that last night. Such a good film. The places featured really are the soul of skiing. Made me ponder about where I ski. And what LCC is missing. Shames looks so rad. I’d love to visit someday, it’s been on my radar for the last decade.

Hey Altacoup, Shames is on my radar as well. Mapping it from Durango looks like one hell of a ski trip. You have 3 weeks off???? I can drive.
