Now that the forum is back, can someone please remind me how to post photos? We got Tallac Cross and rad shit on Leavitt in mint conditions and it never actually happened bc TGR doesn't have photo evidence!

Photos seem to be posting ok via Tapatalk. I use the iPhone app mostly because I like it but it’s still garbling photos so I switch to Tapatalk for that
Alex Hoeft, who is a reporter for Moonshine Ink, shared a byline this morning in the NYT, on a story about the drownings at Tahoe. She's written some good stories in MI. Gift article https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/24/u...mid=url-shareI I can't say that the high winds were unexpected though. The forecast for that day forecast bad weather and anyone around here knows that spring and summer thunderstorms can bring sudden high winds.
Was in town the other day and saw that Syd’s bagels and coffee is done. Heard that the owner was in debt and noped out on life. Owner of Christy Hill is taking over the spot but unclear on what will be the replacement

I'm still scratching my head at those who are acting like this wind / storm event was a surprise. I have multiple friends who pulled their boats off the water a full week in advance after seeing the extended forecast.

I was talking to a “boat guy” at the bridgetender the other day and he did exactly that. I’m more surprised anybody would want to be on the lake when it was kinda shitty weather even before things got really bad. Apparently , it was a birthday outing for one of the grandmoms. Not clear if they were weekenders or had a summer place there
Yeah, my buddy has a wake boat in Utah and a potential storm was predicted. He pulled his boat...like anyone with a clue would do. Storm came and destroyed the dock and multiple boats. He said he was amazed at how many people were shocked that their boats were destroyed. Thankfully nobody died, but truly people are clueless with understanding the power of mother nature. I think bc skiers/snowboarders and other outdoors sport enthusiasts are just more aware.
More of a Sprocket Rocket question but gonna toss it out here.
I'm going to be near Placerville for a few days in late July while my kid is in in a white water rafting guide camp.
I usually head to Meyers for a day to MTB near Corral Trail.
Should I try a different zone this year. I really enjoy Connector and Corral but are the trails near Sierra at Tahoe or Christmas Valley worth a day?
My drive to Corral takes about an hour and ten minutes which is the max I want to drive. So even if you have a spot not I. Tahoe, but close to Placerville, I'd be stoked to check it out.
I already bike around the ASRA down by the river.

Cronin Ranch and Rattlesnake Bar have some nice cruisy trails. You could bike alongside the river while he floats the gorge.
Trails at Sly Park are just up the road. Nothing epic but enough fun single track to be entertaining for a morning.
Sad to hear about Syd's. Talked to new owner last night at the concert and they said they hope to be open by the 8th.
Boat people were bay area folks that owned a place in Tahoma, according to one of my clients who knew them. V sad birthday. Love that it can snow any day of the year here, but that means you can never fully let your guard down. Still prefer the mountains over the forests of the midwest: full of bitey things and poisonous plants with high humidity and temps. Felt downright hostile on a visit last week under the heat dome.

What are the odds 4th of July chutes are still ski able this weekend? Anyone been back there?
Seems like there's still a lot of snow sticking around based on what I saw in desolation last weekend.
There was a post of someone hitting it a week or two ago. Didnt look promising at the time for July4 but maybe?
Took the 4x road up to Barker pass (by far the most intense road me or that Yukon xl has ever been on) last Saturday. Was still skiable looking then.
The Pickles were regulars at the restaurant and I’d see them walking their dog in the hood

I skied in the hood this AM.
2 hours truck-snow-truck
2 runs on a wonky side-hill, but snow was smooth.
I have only been able to ski in my “backyard” a handful of times this late in the season.
I’d be down to hit 4th of July Chute, but that part of the Lake is gonna be crazy busy by the time I get off work…
Theyre putting the porta potties out at Donner Lake. Shits getting real.

Thanks. Will check them out. Been to Cronan a few times and really the only trail I enjoyed there was the intial green cruiser above the river. The rest of the trail network is kind of meh. Fire roads, non techy non flowy no features kind of XC riding.

Connector/ Corral actully offers a nice down hill experience, with features, jumps, some tech. It is entetaining.

Looking into Rattlesnake (but that also looks very XC) and two Sly Park area trails that are adjacent to each other.

This is my forth time bringing my kid to this camp. I usualy bike Forestdale Divide starting formt he confluence and come back down via Culvert and Confluence. About 3k and 30 miles.

Day 2 I've hit up Connector and Corral or twice have done a day on the river (too much sun for me really)

On the final morning I've either headed to Cronan Ranch OR a lap on Culvert. I think those Sly Park trails look perfect for Day 3, as it is really just a morning ride.

The other two days i try to ride all day and get back to camp around 5PM. My kid is off the river around 6PM.

Maybe I should bring skis and hike for turns.

Good one, OG.
Most of the on the map stuff at Sly Park is definitely on the XC side of things, but still a good time. The trail 8 side is more fun than the lap around the lake. The more interesting stuff is up the road a bit past the Fleming Meadows trailhead. Look for the gate on the left and do some exploring.

The sooner we eliminate all fireworks and replace them with LED Drones, the better.
I hate having to OD my dogs with depressants every fourth.
If your an American you better like fireworks and guns. I didn't make it that way but I don't want it to change. Now get off my lawn.
