the cost has always scared me away too

we have some of the Corvus Freebird and Navis Freebird in various sizes to demo with Dynafit Rotation touring bindings on them

I rolled the 183 Corvus Freebird in and around Sugar Bowl today and they were great - good on the early firm snow and in the corn and slush later - the snow got pretty fkn wind hammered yesterday

lovely day at the country club

I don&#39;t think smoothies has gone this week. It&#39;s been too warm for that. Over at the Ghettos, HighT and Sherwood are getting too warm too quickly. That means that there&#39;s ruts and chunder left for the next day. Not ideal and certainly not perfect, still fun.</p>

That time of the year...little league opening day! These are the things you&#39;re supposed to do for your kids right??? Debated running up to ski tomorrow for half a day before the little storm on Sunday but maybe gaining credits with the wife is more beneficial

In any case, here&#39;s my last two PTOV edits...

Tahoe '24/'25 - This Thread Shall Not Be Privatized!!

Reservations are required for Cal Base on weekends. Arrive early in NV if you want to park there.

Maybe he asked because their website is shit and this place can be to be helpful.

The web site gave an accurate answer--as opposed to G's answer.

To be fair, G is accurate 5 out of 7 days or 7 out of 7 days depending on where you park.

Geez. I'll type it back in there when my thumbs better.

I'm not interested anymore. But sure, I'm wherever you want to call me. I'd get into it but this is just further fucking a thread that already lacks much stoke these days.

    Is it snowing yet?

Hey, everyone... I was wondering if any South Lake mags could help me out with some info and/or predictions.

My sister and her fam are coming to town next weekend (Sunday 3/9) and staying at Heavenly.

They're looking to ski Heavenly Monday March 10th thru Thursday the 13th.

It looks like we're gonna be in a storm cycle that whole time.

I am very familiar with North Lake (live in Olympic Valley), but I don't know much about what goes on at Heavenly on storm days.

This storm looks decent, but not huge... and seems like it will be more intense to the north.

Does anybody have any thoughts about what might be available at Heavenly on those days?

My guess is that some of the upper mountain will be closed, with some options down low.

    Is that accurate?

Big thanks in advance for any 2 cents.
    Still waiting...

There's been a little bit of light snow so far...

Maybe an inch in the valley as of 8am with the sun trying to poke through a little bit since.

    Greetings jahroy!
HV are pretty good at getting something open in a storm. Might depend which Access Point your peeps are using. Gondi, Cali, or NV.
Gondi is most likely to close in a storm, but ,worst case, HV has shuttles to/from the bases this season. So a way back if you get stranded.

When the winds pick up the first chairs to go on wind hold are gondola, sky, dipper then north bowl, canyon, and comet in that order… my best guess. When sky closes you can’t get from Cali to Nevada so you could be stuck on powderbowl only which would suck. If Canyon is open you could hike up to the top of sky and access much more terrain. If you start from Nevada you can usually ride stagecoach and Olympic. If they have touring gear wind hold days can be epic in the slackcountry.

Thank you guys so much for responding!

    What up @Turx!!?

They'll be staying near the base of the gondola at my parents' timeshare.

My sister used to ski a bunch, but not for years.

This trip is with her 11 and 9 year old kids, so no touring for this crew.

They're used to east coast groomers, so we won't be slaying any gnar.

So... if the gondola closes, we'll have to take shuttles or drive to a different base area...?

If so, what's our best bet?

Thanks again for the info... greatly appreciated.

The gonoda will close at the slightest breeze. Monitor the wind direction. The lifts to watch are Sky & Canyon (California side) and Comet & Dipper (Nevada side) If one side begins the day on wind hold, go to the other side. If all of those upper lifts are closed, the Nevada side is better (Boulder or Stagecoach).

Parking is scarce at all lodges. Avoid driving up to Boulder or Stagecoach if it is snowing. The Heavenly shuttles are free and constantly circulate between all base areas. However, like all of Vail, they are run very poorly. Be prepared for a wait.

Thank you kindly for the info.

We will have cars, but it sounds like shuttles are the way to go... and that they'll be somewhat of a junk show.

Looking at BA, he's forecasting stronger winds (and less snow) at Heavenly than he is for Palisades.

Sounds like their coveted ski-in ski-out experience is in serious jeopardy.

I really appreciate all the info.

A wind forecast 7 days out is useless, so I wouldnt worry about it yet. You wont really know for sure whats going to happen with the gondola until about 8AM the day of. The opensnow algorithm uses a forecast point. For Palisades it is 7,546 feet. For Heavenly it is 9,406 feet. That is a massive difference in the Sierra and could explain what you are seeing if you are looking at their resort forecast pages.
"Holy Cow!" someone exclaimed from the back of the stationwagon.
