Haven’t read the environmental document. How would the development in Olympic Valley affect water quality in Lake Tahoe?

Huge discrepancy between the nws forecast and opensnow. Although the nws started by saying it looks dryer and then put up the same precip numbers from yesterday’s forecast

Off the cuff I would guess at a minimum they estimate some % of the X added daily visitor car trips and Y truck trips for construction would be through the basin.

My favorite too, especially when it's not groomed.

Sleigh ride trail at sugar bowl is (was?) the best beginner run on the mountain. My children and many friends’ kids learned to make turns lapping that run.

That was kinda what I thought they were getting at, but it’d think it could be mitigated/eliminated with BMPs and standard permanent water quality control measures.

What’s the lowdown on the KW reservation system? I thought the Palisades one didn’t suck and it was easy enough to get week-of reservation releases.

It looks like there’s no gradual release of spots for KW which will be a total shitshow. And they’re also making most of the lots paid?

At least Harriet's Hollow is still there. That was my kids' favorite when they were little--the little jumps off the sides. The oldest one went up a steep one too slow and fell over backwards instead of going over. When he started laughing hysterically I knew he was gonna love skiing. (I think the only book he ever read cover to cover was Squallywood.)

Anyone read Dee’s letter to the editor in Sierra sun? Was it a warning of what she sees from the inside or was she just the corporate mouth piece one last time before she walks away.

She’s not walking away, she staying on as a special advisor to push the development forward and drawing a salary for that service. Very much still the corporate mouthpiece

I am by no means anti-development, but all the disingenuous reframing and gaslighting by both sides will always rub me the wrong way.

for example, she acts like the elimination of the waterpark features was NOT a surprise last minute announcement at the planning commission hearing a couple weeks ago as a ploy to move the approval forward. Or the idea that a nearly 50 year old master plan is somehow relevant to gauging the suitability of a development in 2024. Or the notion that somehow a onetime $2 million TRPA contribution is a transformative amount of money for the basin while the same multi-billion dollar conglomerate just invested $200 million at arguably the most heavily-invested-in resort (steamboat) since the 90s.

On the other hand, you have the NIMBYs who can only seem to rely on amygdala-activating counter arguments like residents burning alive in a parking lot instead of actual constructive criticism.

I’m sick of everything being a zero-sum game

need a shower just thinking about all this.

It's bullshit to make most of the parking paid when there's no other way to get there other than driving. I hitchhiked a few times from Meyers when I lived there, and it took a long long time to get picked up. Plus, most drivers suck at driving. I was always able to park last couple years even with a later than ideal start. The traffic backups would be at least reduced quite a bit if they moved the roadside parking for Timber Creek to the other side of the road, but that wouldn't be an effortless new revenue source for Vail.

Yes! Harrietts hollow is a kids adventure land! My point about sleigh ride is that it’s a really good and consistent pitch for a beginner skier. It’s also a good pitch for practicing ski ballet

Came home from vacation to find a bunch of feathers and a bird skull in our back yard. Anyone know what orange and black birds come through Tahoe? I don’t remember seeing any.

Skull was around the size a Steller’s Jay, maybe.

Edit: looks like probably a Bullock’s Oriole.

PSA for all the Sugar Bowl skiers, the speed limit when you get off 80 until you are out of town is 25 mph now. Going to be a lot of 20+ over tickets on that road the way people drive it. I didn’t notice it until driving back through town.

The speed limit has been 25 for as long as I can remember. I've never seen a cop there in the hundreds of times I've driven past.

Hmm, my memory was 35. Two full timers in Soda Springs said there was a big push to lower the speed limit to 25 and that many people at the public meeting requested the sheriff to have a cop posts on weekend mornings. But I’m just repeating the local gossip.
