It’s a much needed throwback to the days when Tahoe didn’t cater to the pass holder, second home owner or rich entitled tech bro, but rather to the core skier who saved up their hard earned $$$ to squeeze in a day on the slopes.

I wish more hills did this. It goes a long way to spreading a semblance of goodwill and community vibes towards long time locals who have lived and worked here pre-2020 Covid migration.

I would be interested to see stats on who bought those $39 tickets.
Locals? Folks up for the holidays who don’t have a pass anywhere.?
Randos who were lured in by the cheap ticket?
Also be interested to know the % breakdown of how many folks who were at SB were pass holders and how many bought the $39 tix…

Anyway, I thought it was cool that they did that. I have been skiing in the area long enough to remember when you could score $39 SB tix at Wild Cherries…

In regards to the bears, I had one get into my box twice last month. First time in 15 years of living in my house that that’s happened. Started using the extra lock on the box and taking trash out morning of pick-up and that seems to have solved the problem.
Before I could afford season passes, I always bought tickets at Wild Cherries on my way to the hill.

Don't get me wrong. I love the idea of cheap tickets. What I didn't appreciate was offering the cheap tickets when there wasn't enough of the mountain operating to support it. Making the trip to the hill for 3 laps of Jerome in 2 hours wasn't super cool.

Then again, I also have a rule for PT. If they aren't operating upper mountain I won't go on a weekend. I hate standing in lines. I'll go for a walk in the woods instead.

Maybe I'm a edge case. I'm definitely grumpy.

FWIW, I'm definitely over it. I think SB is kicking ass getting terrain opened. I was so stoked for opening weekend. The lines kinda killed my stoke. I needed pocket beers or something.

My young ski days were skiing in California in the 80’s, and I feel like long lift lines and slow lifts were the norm. I love hot lapping powder days with no lift lines, but am ok with longer lines and cheaper tix.

With the change of the terrain park location, it seems likely SB may have longer lines for Xmas tree and Lincoln lifts. It’ll be fun watching the air show from the lift lines and the lifts.

    Argh
Not sure how I feel about it. I liked the terrain park on one side and bigger terrain on the other. I was also fine letting my kids do park laps where I could see them from the Judah deck every couple of times through. We'll see how it works out.

Re shooting problem bears--in the past Truckee PD paintballed them. I don't know if that is still the policy. They go through Chiefs like Da Bears go through QB's. Although they have a decent one now. (The Bears that is.)

I have some beanbag rounds from when we had our repeat offender visiting regularly. Never tried them, but I have a friend that used them effectively. I don't know what Truckee PD policy is.

My neighbor went full Alaska and used plywood with nails in front of his front door.

Dang, guess you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do, but these aren’t grizzlies and I don’t want to hurt them. Paintball gun makes sense, especially since you can adjust the firing speed by quite a bit.

They use paintball guns at Martis Camp to keep the bears away from the Lodge down by the Martis chairlift…at least they did some 7 odd years ago when I worked at the ropes course. Gotta imagine they haven’t changed their policy.
But when I worked there they gave away free soft serve to the members and kids would toss full cups into the woods around the course, so bears were often present in the summer and fall (the smell of pizza and grilled meat from the lodge probably didn’t help either)

I figured it would be a zoo at Alpine, so I did opening day at TDXC instead. Great fast non-icy snow, and particularly nice up high.

Dude, I couldn't agree more. I don't kill things unless I eat them. Our problem bear was getting pretty aggressive with the neighbors. It broke into one house while they had a construction crew on site. Walked right through the door and got into the fridge. Then it tried to break down the front door at another neighbors house. It scared the hell out of their daughter. It broke into the two campers and then was far too close to my 5 year old on the trampoline. I decided that was enough. Luckily my dog did the heavy lifting, but I did walk out and retrieve my son from the trampoline with a rifle. The bear wasn't phased by my yelling, but the sound of the rifle sent him on his way. We all collaborated on making sure it had no reason to come back.

Humans killed off the Sierra Grizzlies. The Grizzlies controlled the black bear population. Go figure. We haven't had much trouble at our homes, but the garbage dumpsters are always an issue.

We also had one kook of a neighbor that was feeding them and put pools out for them. That stopped when she was mauled after unknowingly walking up on a bear in her yard. Literally walked into a bear at night.

SB was so much fun today. The snow on Disney held up great until after lunch. The freeride kids put on a show at the wind lip under the chair.

My seven year old got a three off the wind lip and loved the cheers from the chair. He's hooked.

Squaw announced upper mountain for Sunday!!

I'd love to see snow in the forecast, but it's been a long time since November has looked this good!!

A former sheriff lives across the street from with a half block all surrounded my metal fencing. The bears are safe from all the dogs there. The sheriff puts out fiberglass igloos for the bears and always puts out bird seed. So the bears sleep there and overwinter there as well. I don’t know why he gets away with it but he does. The bears are responsible for hundreds of thousands in damages at least. He’s basically harboring fugitives

Heads up for any ikon folk that want to ski tahoes epic resorts. One day epic passes are only $98 but passes go off sale Dec 2nd.
I’ll be at Kirkwood with the minis on Monday
Does ikon offer anything like that? They would make great stocking stuffers so then the minis could come ski with me at alpine

Ikon usually offers a four day pass for $[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]]][emoji[emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji640]]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji637]]]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]]]][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji639][emoji[emoji6[emoji640][emoji638]][emoji640][emoji639]]]] or something like that. Not quite the same but that’s about as close as I can think of.

Three seventy five. Man this app sucks.

The bear league may be crazy, but they too know a fed bear is a dead bear

    Hey local Mags!!

Does anyone have a set of kids 24.5 ski boots they would be willing to part with? My brothers kid skis about 10 days per year. Unfortunately he wears the same size boots as my oldest, so I don't have anything to hand down to him. My next move would be seasonal rentals if I can't track something used down.

    Thanks!!

Try Gear Hut in Reno, there are a ton of ski boots in that range starting at $50 or so
