Well it's a good thing there won't be any staff needing housing that they're not building. I think that's called efficiency.

Did Jimmy King retire? If so, I guess no Silverado for sure this season.

From looking at the web cams, I haven't seen them blowing any snow on Gold Coast the last couple weeks.

It's not even TG and that place sounds like a cluster already...

Jimmy K has moved on to greener pastures.

Based on what new Mtn Manager is saying, wrt to Silvy, the goal this year is a much longer Silvy season. We'll see...

I like what I'm hearing about new approaches to operations. Also, report from a few weeks ago was very positive on the personnel front.

Once things get going (after Thanksgiving), I will be interested to see if the new blood and direction results in better ops. I'm hopeful...but PE "wallet capture" will be driving many decisions outside of the Mtn Manager's control. Fingers crossed...

Several inches of snow at the Alpine TLC mid station so the first few runs were pretty fun considering it’s not Thanksgiving yet. Wish they had groomed less of it but can’t complain.

Found ~4ft/120 cm consistently from 8,200 to 7,000 ft in the n. facing trees on Donner Summit this weekend. 5in n ski pentration in soft snow on supportable base for rock/shark free confident turns.

Alpine is going to open t2b with Summit and Roundhouse, and P-valley can't get a single lift open on the upper mountain. Somethings not checking out here.

Rumor has it the Funi is broken with no date set for repair.

The real question, IMO is why they haven't been making snow when it's cold in order to get mountain run open.

Patrol is running routes up top. I think there's plenty of snow.

It's almost like there's no incentive when they already have your pass money.

These are fun things to bitch about this early in the season. I'm happy there's snow to play on, but it sure feels like the mountain is lacking the same stoke that we are. Staffing is an issue, too. It's like trying to get a really heavy wheel rolling when you weren't planning on it.

On those lines.... I can't help but feel slighted by SB with the $39 lift tickets this weekend. Word is they sold 2k of them Sunday. The line half way up Jerome was brutal. I would have been fine with it if they opened more terrain, but as a pass holder it was tough to be amped by their actions.

I must be getting old and grumpy. Or not. Not sure....

Thanks for posting this. They are also down here in the Carson Valley, turning over trash cans and tearing up cars. The people who defend the bears no matter what remind me a bit of the feral horse fanatics. Bears are at least native to the area.

They can be a bit a bit fanatical. There's an argument on both sides. If these were Grizzlies I bet they'd act a bit differently.

Folks in our neighborhood are great about closing the lock bars on our dumpsters. The tourists are too dumb (?) To figure out how the bars work, so they leave their trash sitting next to the dumpsters. It gets raided without fail.

Up at the house my dog has been highly effective keeping bears away. He loves chasing them and is damn good at his "job." He's highly effective against two foot annoyances, also.

Very good/thorough article. Thx for posting.

Back to skiing, curious to hear how the parking situation on the Cali side of Heavenly is working out as the week goes on. Looking forward to some reports.
