RIP Luis Tiant

Loved that guy. Met him a few times. Always joking and fun to be around. I'm pretty good friends with Rick Cerone (former NY Yankees catcher). We used to hang at a mutual friends bar in Newark, NJ. It was a dive bar that specialized in cheap hookers. Ricky used to come in with Bucky Dent, Don Mattingly, Luis Tiant, Mickey Rivers and Oscar Gamble all the time. One time LT was having his way with a $10 Latina in the bathroom. After 10 mins, he comes out with a big smile on his face and yells out: "She's a wiener" via the ballpark franks commercial. We all spit up or drinks.

Well I was gonna say he was a class act but that kinda puts a different spin on things. Good pitcher, though.

RIP El Tiante… his windup is etched in my memory forever. Turn your back to the plate and then let ‘er rip. Many happy wiffleball hours emulating that one.

My eyes hurt seeing him above in Pinstripes… Let us remember his proper uniform.
