    RIP John Gierach

According the AK Best, John Gierach has passed away from a heart attack.

Damn. One of my heroes. He knew what mattered in life and wrote tremendous essays.

Read most of his stuff. Me and Mrs. Plug quote him all the time.
    Something like:
“Would you like me to net him sir?”
“What I’d like is for you to get your god damn hands off my fish.’
Well maybe I'm the faggot America

    RIP. Guy is a legend.

Have read a large portion of his books. Always looked forward to his article in Trout magazine.

Used to see him around from time to time. The best was I was out at some ponds with my son who was fly fishing for sunfish. Late spring/early summer. Around runoff. There’s gravel paths that go around these ponds and sure enough here comes JG walking along. Trademark bucket hat, walking stick. He engages with my kid and asks him if he catching anything etc. I told him I was a fan and we talked about local conditions and ended up discussing a float on a local freestone that we both had done but really isn’t that well known. Talked about birds. He couldn’t have been nicer.

I too tipped one back and read a few pages streamside in honor of the legend.
