Question So what's gonna be this year's Tahoe?

Those of us concrete dwellers tend to book trips early in the year... had you booked the Pac NW last year, chances are you got skunked. Tahoe? Jackpot.

Who's got a handle of the long-range forecast? Is this an el nino or il nina year? Is the jet stream going to split again? And what the heck does all that mean in snow predictions?

(of course, there is always the SLC safe bet... but SLC sucks and really, who wants to go there? )

here's my nickel of advice: unless you have kids and need to lock in a certain location/lodging/flights, etc, wait, and play it by ear.

if your single or w/GF/wife, and both of you are cool w/last minute plans, then pick yer dates (if you must for time off at work) and just decide that a week or 2 before you go, you check to see who is getting the goods, and whats in the week ahead forecast. then find your flights and lodging then. this insure good snow vs trying to predict way in adnace of who is goign to be getting the goods.

if the aove scenairo is too risky for you (b/c of kids, etc), then just make a plan to go some place you have always wanted to ski, and hope for the best. No sense trying to predict, so just pick a place that you will be excited to visit, regardless of conditions. As always, UT and Tahoe are pretty safe bets from Jan-April. Good luck!

I forecast that the best skiing will be had at the summit this year. It will be epic deep, with cold dry snow piling up at night and bluebird conditions during the day. Beautiful women will abound, and we will all win the powerball.

Tahoe's gonna suck this year go somewhere else (Anywhere else) Plus regardless of conditions Tahoe area got so much play and press last year that Hotel (Everything) is booked and expencive.

    Agree with Freshies:

There is no reason to book more than 30 days in advance, unless you are locking in Air Travel and Hotel on a MAJOR Holliday. Best trips are booked (off Peak) within two weeks of the trip

I've done it both ways... booked last minute... booked months in advance.

The true issue for not going last minute is availability of flights that I can use my FF miles on. Back in the good ole days, I had copious amounts of miles and preferred status (i.e. no black-out dates). Last year, I tried to pull the quick flight out to Tahoe/Jackson/Denver/SLC but got skunked. I've got 75,000 miles burning a hole in my pocket and want to lock in on using them this year.

And grrr... I already ski Mountain Creek all the time... I'm looking for a change.

So pick an off peak week in Mid January or Feb ,
Or March, Or April. book the flight to SLC pick LLC BCC PC just prior to getting there?

Oh yea, SWA no black outs (Just earn round trips) thats what I use to hit SLC for spur of the moment trips to PC / Snowbird. Travel on less than 24 hours notice cuz the snow is good!

Why not take the non-high season week(whenever works for you) and fly into SLC. Then you have the choive of Utah or short hop or drive to many areas in the west. SLC is a hub so there should be lots of connectors to where ever has snow.
Move along nothing to see here.

As long as they go to Squaw, Heavenly or Northstar, it's fine with me. Go BC if you don't like it.

You didn't hear about it because you live on the East Coast. There was a name change in the works but the resolution was voted down on account of your arrival. People wanted you to experience a Tahoe winter before it gets renamed San Francisco Heights.

With mother nature being the way she is...

It will be sickity gnar gnar deep with 10' of slushies at Snow Creek!

    They are so way overdue.

The storm will hook a hard right and dump 30' of snow on New Orleans...

If you don't already know, hes probably not gonna tell you. Seems like hes on a pretty strict disinformation regimen already.
