Shasta MTB for a few days next weekend, Sisson Callahan, Ashland?

Planning a Shasta MTB trip next week, riding as many as five days, happy to pedal but are prioritizing descents, rowdy, flow, steep tech, ectara :-). Were planning to ride Gateway Trails, a park day and some shuttling from ~ bunny flat, is there enough riding between the three or should we plan on a Sisson Callahan day or maybe Sisson Callahan is just kick ass and needs to be done? Enough with the 3 or 4 options or do we plan an Ashland day as well? Cheers!

Yes. If you tack on the optional OAB up to Eddy summit it's a 5,500 ft, 9 mile descent.

Gateway trails are fun but not earth-shattering. We were too late to grab the Sisson-Callahan shuttle and regretted it. McBride campground is nice, as is the boondock camping in the tight curve on the way to Bunny Flat.

Weaverville is up that way. I've heard good things but have never ridden there myself.
Sweepstakes is the trail I hear being raved about.

We rode a 2-3 hour loop on the lower trail system. Nicely built and worth your time. Didn't get to the longer shuttle ride.

If considering Ashland b/w 9/27-9/29 - the Ashland Mountain Challenge is going on and the trails/trailheads will be very busy. Otherwise, the trails are in good shape if you like kitty litter over hardpack.

Sweepstakes is good if making a side trip to Weaverville. Very long descent that reminded me a bit of Oakridge. Mt Ashland is fun for sure. Gateway isn’t anything amazing (kinda flat) but a good option for any day where you just have a couple hours to ride.

I grew up in Weaverville so nice to hear that good trails are being built. Jackass Ridge is fun, too. However, unless you're coming from the coast Weaverville is a 2-hr detour from Shasta. Beautiful drive though if you take Hwy 3 north over Scott Mountain.

Weaverville trail builders shuttled me on that ^ ride, it’s good & ends up at a bar. I am now trying to find excuses to include in future road trips.

Shasta was a blast, Sisson Callahan :-) old & direct hiking trail. Steep enough to keep good speed, a bit on the FUN rowdy side. Did the gateway trails a few times & did some riding above that which was good too. will keep Weaverville on the radar for another trip!
