My Random Comment of the Thread: When Apple gives permission for their product/logo on screen in movies and Tv shows the contract says their products can never be shown causing a car crash because of texting or similar things. So you don't see bad things happen to people using iphones.

    This.

Take a long hard look at why you really like guns enough to gloss over dead innocent kids and fight common sense legislation (not to mention trolling an internet forum)

You’ve lost your humanity over what?
    A hobby?
Some overhyped and false notion that you’re resisting oppression and preventing tyranny (while in high probability supporting the most pro-tyranny candidate in US history)?
    Plain old chicken shit fear?

That's pretty much the argument some of the state legislators make.

We can't ban it (because freedumb), and also if we did ban it, it would actually make the problem worse because people would try to hide it which means they would be looking even further down.

Seatbelt laws mostly worked. Handsfree laws mostly worked in other places (at least before the boom scrolling instagram while driving)--far more rare to see someone driving with a handset on their ear in most states than it was 15 years ago and fairly easy to write tickets for.

Ridiculous that everyone else has to pay the price in increased insurance rates, damaged cars, injuries, and lost lives, because somebody can't stay off their phone. My wife got rear ended while stopped by someone who was messing with their phone (not even a suspicion...they just said they were looking at it...because...not explicitly illegal). Everyone was fine, but it was still a $10k insurance payout on our side and probably more than that on theirs.

And I say "texting" but from my time owning a motorcycle (where I could easily see into people's laps in traffic), texting is honestly only a fraction of the issue. Was ridiculous how many people I would see start scrolling instagram or facebook the second traffic slowed...couldn't escape that dopamine hit. I find that far more egregious because at least with a text/email there's some sense of urgency I can empathize with. You still shouldn't do it (or you should use voice commands...although research shows those are still pretty distracting), but there's still that sense of "someone's talking to me now and needs a response". Your fucking instagram feed will still be there when you get to your destination.

Any police department that needs to raise money should just get a little tour bus with high windows and drive around town during rush hour with an officer on either side photographing license plates + phones on facebook and mailing out tickets.

And yes, as much as I hate distracted driving....trying to whatabout american gun violence with it is dumb.

Although that may not be driven by distracted driving (although there may also be reporting issues with distracted driving...I suspect it is heavily underreported, especially in non-fatal accidents)

Is it still a DUI if the car is driving?

I had a rental car recently that beeped at you when the car ahead had started to pull away. At first it seemed like a cool feature, but in reality it was a "we're making it easier for you to use you phone while driving" feature, which is kinda fucked.

OP, he's not lying, Bmills pretty much never calls people out on stuff, he's the Rodney King of the TRGz (at least in the sense of the "can't we all just get along" part, not the police beatings part). I don't read the thread where this all originated, but my uninformed and unsolicited advice is you would be well served to take heed when he's calling you out.

There was a time when I'd just give them a quick chirp, but these days I lay on that shit.

California legislator has introduced a bill requiring new cars to beep if you're doing 10 over or faster. But California bans speed cameras. (Recently we started a pilot program in a few big cities.)

Heh. Interestingly enough. Introducing a speed limit in Germany is debated as fiercly as introducing gun control in the US. I guess we also have freedom ( take the gas Pedal from my cold dead feet!) tm issues.

    Preach brotha!

    Fucking infotainment bullshit.
Not to mention some cars requiring multiple screen clicks to do a simple task like adjusting the climate control. Gimme knobs and buttons for basic tasks.

When I worked for the mother corp in the 80's and 90's well before I-phones we carried these terminals LCD display/ keyboard/ about 20K bytes of info we could get calls, close calls, order parts, submit completed work, send messages to others who had a brick SO do all the service stuff by RF

I think they were officaly called portable terminals or PT's but they were about the size and weight of a small brick so it was refered to as " the brick" as in I will brick you the info/ I will send you that call on the brick/ I will brick you to go for coffee, it was super handy

I found mine would wedge quite solidly between the windshield of my tercel and top of the dash so i could operate it like a heads up display just like Maverick and Jester which was much less distracted than wanking about with an I-phone in one hand

Don't mess with Germans and their Autobahn . I was shocked at the number of mass fatalities from high speed pile ups on the Autobahn when I was living in Germany. But then one evening while driving 140 KPH in Bavaria when the fog rolled in, and getting passed by the big bad Bimmers and Benzes doing 170-180 KPH that couldn't see more than 30 meters n front of them, I understood why crashes like that happen.
