    Mellow North Lake Tahoe Rides

Here with the family and wife and I are going to try to sneak out off a ride. What would you recommend around here? Climbing is good and fine, technical stuff, not so much. Any recs? Thanks!

The Flume was mellow with cool views--occasionally sketchy--about 7 years ago.

Happy Face is a fun flow trail and theres lots of other options around it as well. Tahoe Donners trail system in general, is mellow fun cruiser stuff. The trail system in Tahoe City is pretty mellow by most standards(just stay off upper big chief, glass mtn section of TRT & cedar flat tr )...honestly just download the trailforks app and pick any blue trail and you'll have a good time.

Yeah, I ridden Flume twice, but not for 10 years or so. I couldn't remember if it was a mellow as I remember or not. Thanks!

Flume is super mellow. Nothing remotely technical. There’s a shuttle service from tunnel creek cafe as well that is helpful if you don’t want to do an out and back from your starting point.

The Flume is mellow not techy at all but can be a head trip for those not super comfortable on a bike or have issues with heights. It’s like riding on the sidewalk but with 500 drop off on one side. My wife didn’t love it (other than the views) when we did it years ago but she’s not much of a biker. I’m the one with height issues but felt fine. We did the shuttle. Double track out of spooner lake was a boring slog, made me wish for an ebike.

I’m pretty big pusay when when it comes to heights but the flume doesn’t feel bad to me at all. It is much more a steep slope than any kind of cliff

Emigrant Trail north of Truckee is fun and not technical. I normally start at the Donner Party picnic area and ride out to Stampede and back. Around 20 miles and a couple of hours round trip.

    Mellow North Lake Tahoe Rides

Where are you staying? Over by Incline? Truckee? Tahoe City?

How long a ride did you have in mind?

You want the trails from the Nordic Center at Dollar Hill near Tahoe City.

Plenty of meandering trails through the woods with no exposure.
Mostly pretty smooth with very few rock gardens.
For a longer ride, you can hook up with the Tahoe Rim Trail and climb up near Watson Lake or stay lower and connect over to Ocelot or Jackpine and end up in Tahoe City.
You can also connect to these trails by starting by Squaw and climbing up Western States & Wallternate.
If you want to go for a heavier duty ride up that way on some not for the faint of heart trails, PM me and I'll point you in the right direction.
