Where to escape hot fart season?

It's August. The dust is deep. The humidity is stifling. The smoke is building. And I happen to have a week off later in the month. Looking to haul my rig to somewhere cool and wet. Have bike bag, will fly. Recs? I'd begrudgingly sign up for something organized, but show-up-and-ride would be ideal. For some reason Scotland is low-key on my radar as still pretty temperate this time of year?

Mont blanc zone looks pleasant. 65° and misty in chamonix. Low 70's in La Thuille on the Italian side. And if temps go up, you can just go higher - plenty of vert to work with. Some of the best riding on the planet.

Norcal coast, somewhere like Mendocino. High temp is about 60F year round. Just don't go too far inland.

I've ridden there a couple times - Russian Gulch and Jackson Demo Forest. Pretty fun trails. There's enough for a few days riding.

Yeah I was going to say, it's been getting down into the 50s overnight here on the CA coast, with lots of fog. High today was 65. I bet the dirt down in Santa Cruz is pretty good for August right now.

Ya us too. Very pleasant with nice camping up in the demo forest. We also liked the King Range purpose-built trails at Paradise Royale- nice BLM campground up there. Then hit the beach at Shelter Cove. Weaverville CA trails were built by an old trailbuilder FS buddy and are worth a stop, especially the big shuttle.

The problem is getting there around the Park fire.

NorCal up the 101 all the way to port townsend. Plenty of good (and underrated) mtb spots and epic gravel rides all the way.

You could keep it local and cross over to the Olympic Peninsula. No wildfire smoke over here and the further towards the coast you go the wetter and cooler it is. Port Townsend trails are lots of fun!

Been spending a lot of time up high on the divide in CO on the mtb and dirt bike lately. It has been a pretty nice temp up there. There are some pretty sweet mtb trails up high around here, you can use lifts too if ya want. The lake is "technically" too cold to swim in, you aren't really allowed, but for a few minutes it feels really nice to dive in off the SUP. Hit a high of 83ºF yesterday. No smoke on this side of the divide currently and it is supposed to cool down and start raining in the afternoons next week. Kinda dusty now though.

The Olympic peninsula is awesome, I lived there for a little while, but the riding is kind of a more limited version of what you get in the Cascades with some ocean views, and it’s better when it’s wetter. If Huskier has time to travel he should. CO, norcal and coastal Oregon seem like the only reasonable domestic options and they are all prone to dry dirt and fires this time of year but seem to be doing ok for now

You haven't ever been out on a ride and felt like you're getting dutch oven-ed by wildfire smoke? Smelly. And suffocating. And hot. Hot fart.

Mendocino is a great rec kinda forgot about that area

There is a pretty good flow trail system between Coos Bay, OR and Bandon called Whiskey Run. It's only a few miles from the ocean, so generally pretty temperate weather even when it was hellish more inland. Haven't been back since I left in '20 (pre-covid outdoor explosion) but it was never crowded (think kind of like early morning Palouse to Cascades/Olallie kind of crowded from my limited time here in WA) and they were expanding the trail network with some more advanced terrain at the time.
