    Europe ski stopover on honeymoon

Looking to finish planning my honeymoon in mid December. Thinking Maldives and Alps on the way (from Boston or potentially Chicago).

Wondering if there’s a best bet in terms of airport to get to Male (thru doha/dubai/istanbul?) and skiing.

Thinking 3-4, maybe 5 days in alps on the way (ship boots and ski gear back home-no skis). Wife will ski maybe a half day or two, she’d probably like a spa day, shopping day, charcuterie and apres. I’ll ski the bulk of the time. Any ideas combining all this? Geneva —>cham? Innsbruck —>st Anton? We can commute via train if it’s a lot easier.

Why not a honeymoon in December and then a ski trip to the alps in March?

Fuck skiing in the Alps in mid-December. Go to Trollhaugen ! It will be in prime condition by then, join up with the maggot crew, we absolutely dominate that place. Lifts keep spinning until 3am on Friday nights with live punk bands playing. I can’t think of a better place to honeymoon.

Spa day for your lady is totally doable as well. There is a Vietnamese nail salon in the strip mall over in St. Croix Falls.

December is iffy in the Alps, so better head to some high, snow sure spot like Val d'Isere/Tignes, one of the Austrian glacier spots like Soelden or Obergurgl. Zermatt/Cervinia is another decent early season bet. Zermatt will have the easiest train access, others require a bus transfer.

Saas-Fee is another high place that has early season skiing but a bus connection from Visp.

Perhaps. Given the compromises in the honeymoon planning?

    “Wicked”? You from MA???

Gotta be mid/late December. Zermatt is probably at the top of the list unless we went to austria/thru innsbruck.

Just trying to split up the trip a little,I’d go stir crazy sitting in the Maldives for 2 weeks

That looks like a pretty safe bet for December. I would just take an extended layover in Newark and hit Big SNOW America. His wife could get the full Jersey Spa Treatment and he could make a few turns. Maybe head up Rt 17 and hit the Crow's Nest for a nice honeymoon supper?

To clarify a bit, I went to the Maldives with the wife last year. We flew Zurich > Vienna > Male because it was super cheap. And Austrian was a nice airline. Could be a nice option for you. And if you can spend a night in Vienna, will be nice with the Christmas markets. If you can stay flexible on pre-booking, Vienna should be an easy-ish (short flight worst case) place from which to chase snow.

It's good to set realistic expectations early in the marriage.
