I'll be at the Utah vs Chicago game tomorrow and I'm pretty damn excited for many reasons. Anyone else have season tickets here in Utah?

I'm rooting for my home team Chicago tomorrow, but for all the preseason Utah games I've been strangely drawn to rooting for Utah and I don't know who I am anymore.

What section? A couple of my friends went to a preseason game with obstructed view of one goal and as long time hardcore NHL fans they surprisingly said they didn't care as much as they thought they would. You know, maybe first time butterflies watching in SLC and all that. Two of the periods they could see the attack goal though. They were in 137.

Yup, I'll be there tonight. We got the preferred partial plan + tickets for the Pens game in January. Pretty stoked to attend the inaugural opening game!

We have a bunch of tickets, but we didn't end up with the Chicago game. Our seats are front row upper deck center ice. My first game is 10/24 vs Avalanche. Let's go UTAH! Up 2-0!!!!!!

I took this on "The Patio" a few hours before the game last night. When you're seated you can't see the goal nor about 15 feet in front of it. I guess it depends on how much that would affect your enjoyment of the game. The atmosphere there last night was pretty electric.

Chicago looked absolutely terrible.... Best line from the commentator, "good news is that Chicago drew another penalty, the bad news is their going back on the power play."
Cool seeing hockey from Utah though!

Agreed, Muted. Looks like your seats are just a few sections over from us (129). Sight lines weren't horrible, but tough when the puck was in the near boards. Hopefully they get a few things fixed. Weird placement of the penalty clock (and not running it half the time) and the dead pixel on that side of the video board was pretty distracting.

Cool seeing Mess before the game.

You probably saw they showed the players who were out on the ice on the video board. If one got a penalty, they would put the time up beside their number. But they didn't always do it, like during the Durzi scuffle in the 2nd period, so you couldn't always see who got what.

Ha, that's ridiculously small placement. Thanks for that!

And then followed by "can they decline the penalty?". I swear the power play tried to gain the zone 7 times and got denied everytime. Still fun. Chicago at least made it exciting at the end.

"Tampa Bay Lightning" is sounding unfortunate right now. At least they're not the Surge. I'd suggest something not weather related.

I don't think I'm going to last long as a season ticket holder if the venue keeps playing shit techno remixes and only techno remixes of songs like Nirvana's Teen Spirit every break. I wanted to squish some tater tots deep into my ear to stop the pain but that's a waste of good taters so - fack me.

Agreed. I heard rumor that the team music director/DJ from opening night left after creative differences and that even the team is complaining about the music choices. They really need to learn that you don't play the same song each time after an opposing team scores. The techno remix of the nu-metal version of Sound of Silence deserves a special place in hell after the last two games. Don't give the other team a theme song.

On the bright side, they did fix the penalty clock issue and the Law and Order "schong!" sound effect to end the PK is a pretty good one.

Dead pixel in the video board is still dead pixeling.

The only music and sound system that belongs in a hockey arena is an organ.

But seriously, all that noise waiting for face offs and during other clock stoppages doesn't increase excitement, it takes the fans out of the game. When the puck is dropped and the techno stops--silence.

Season well under way, let's bump this up.

    Couple things ~

I truly think 3v3 overtime is one of the best things to happen to the game in recent memory. Sure, shootouts at the rate we used to see them were pretty fun to watch, but they were kind of a disservice to the game. A necessary tie breaker if you will. 3v3 is so much more entertaining while still keeping it rooted to actual play and it showcases just how good these are. A little more time and space and the vast majority of games end before the 5 minute mark.

Was flipping around between games tonight and caught the last 2 min of Pens-Ducks OT. About 30 seconds after tuning in Crosby capitalizes on a mistake and the game is over. It's what we all really want to see.

Another observation - what's with the fighting after perfectly clean hits? I'm the first person to call out a dirty hit, but a lot of these are perfectly clean, shoulder to shoulder, hard hits. Part of the game. Suck it ya nancies and save it for the truly nasty stuff, which does still happen fairly frequently.

This is the most "old man" thing I will read this week. Nice! FWIW, I personally would appreciate a balance between some old-timey organ and the newer style music-between-plays. At Leafs games this seems to be okay, but the same old schtick becomes apparent once you attend a few of them. Welp, it's middle of the 2nd, time for Stompin' Tom's The Hockey Song.... oh look, 3rd period started, time for the guys with the big head cutouts to dance to Cotton Eye Joe... But it's not organs or music that's gonna get a hockey crowd going, it's the acutal hockey and games/situations of importance.

YES! Especially now that almost no game ends in a goddam shootout. What a travesty of the sport it was to introduce those!

    Blech. Good riddance.

Yessir. And I bet the players prefer it this way as well.

Also, I've never said this before ever, but... The Toronto Maple Leafs: This is the year™.

There are still too many shootouts without a goal in OT.

New "Last Man standing" OT proposal:

OT starts 5v5, after 2 minutes of play a buzzer sounds, 1 player from each team exits immediately during live play like a shift change without a replacement.
Next 2 mins played 4x4, buzzer sounds, 1 player from each team exits immediately....
    Next 2 minutes played 3v3....
    Next 2 mins played 2v2....
    Next 2 mins played 1v1....

If you can't get a goal out of that 99% of the time, I'd be surprised.

And shift/player time management would be VERY interesting.

Not wrong. The Coyotes had a good young crop of forwards, but needed serious help on D. Utah owner opened the purse strings and brought in Sergachev and a few other veterans who have helped stabilize the defense. Now they just need to learn how to hold a lead in the 3rd period.

Tonight's game in Winnipeg will be a real indicator on how far they come.

Can we start a petition to rename the Atlantic Division the North & Florida Division?
