Most of Houston without power. That’s objectively wild of a top 5 metro in terms of the number of people affected. Then again, any time a major storm hits a large coastal city (RIP Benny Profane’s jaded commentary) its gonna wreak havoc.

Not so much the case in New England. The last tornado I remember in NE was a small twister that tore through Palmer, MA almost a decade ago maybe more. NE is pretty safe unless everything is frozen and it decides to get up to the mid 40s and rain like hell for a week.

Remnants of Beryl spawning floods and a few tornados here in Upstate NY and northern New England this evening.

The path Beryl between TX and here followed April's Eclipse line almost perfectly. Coincidence???... sounds more like government cloud seeding to me!

Might be a big nasty storm firing out of a Gyre starting in the S Gulf of Mexico and heading North to LA-FL. Conditions look ripe for it being a major if not a high end major.

Annual fishing trip to the Panhandle supposed to start this Saturday. Current forecast is hurricane force winds out of the east on Thursday, which would mean significant storm surge where we stay. 20+ years and we’ve never canceled due to weather, so I guess we’re due.

Yeah, we’ve been pretty lucky. The worst we’ve been impacted was 2023 with Ian. Wind blew 30+ out of the north for 2 days and pushed 3 feet of water out of the bay.

Here we go. FIL just got back into town from Erie PA, and he is the 'Cane magnet.

Looks like just a glancing blow and a bit of rain for us. Like others have said, these storms seem to be doing more damage as they move towards the Upstates these days.

If you see a camera crew next to large puddles, it might be time to make a run to the liquor store.

And I think you're right, the impact of storms these days seems to be the slow plod north and less so in the shock and awe of landfall. NW Georgia is looking to get 8" of rain from this one later this week. That's a lot of water for a very hilly part of the state that doesn't drain well.

My brother lives right on this yellow line in west central Georgia. He is battening down the hatches, prepared for an extended period without power or groceries. He is far enough inland so he has never had a hurricane reach him at full hurricane force, but plenty have hit him still classified as tropical storms.

My buddy who lives up in the N. Ga Mountains (along the white line above) was out of power for 14 days when the remnants of Hurricane Irma rolled through. Densely-forested old growth hardwood on sandy soil over granite all over the state, both in and outside of the city, makes for a messy time whenever one of these rolls through. Trees down everywhere; power out for days. Last one through killed 2. He was lucky in that his neighbor had a Caterpillar D5 in his barn so they could at least clear their road after a day or so.
