    “Print ain’t dead”…for our interests

Here’s an interesting NYT article that focuses on the resurgence of quality print magazines that focus on outdoors, specifically Mountain Gazette, Adventure Journal, Surfer’s Journal, and Summit Journal.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/16/b...smid=url-share

I subscribe to AJ and MG and sometimes pick up SJ just because of the really nice formats, writing, and photography. I’d throw in The Avalanche Review in the group (@homemadesalsa!) The article sums up a lot of my feelings about those publications, and makes me happy about their approach. My only problem is what to do with the old issues. I drop off old TARs at the local patrol shack.

a good read, I noticed that post Covid the magazine rack at Safeway went from a double width to a single width and has not gone back so I assume a lot of magazines have just shut down ?

TFA does this already, but I just want to plug AJ again. It's a great publication and I look forward to every issue.

Backcountry, Skier's Journal, and Montana Outdoors are the print magazines I still subscribe too, and I really look forward to them. If Powder came back into regular print publication I'd sign up for that too.

We’ve got a small magazine rack at the local natural grocer’s where I sling produce.
Not very outdoorsy centric and stuff doesn’t move much.
We do have Jack White’s music/culture rag Maggot Brain, though. And we were carrying Heavy Metal, too.

a brand new climbing zine, “Hangdogmag”, just arrived in my box.

They didn’t go the super high end glossy route, but it’s kind of artsy and short but pretty cool and also affordable.

Relatedly, I'm looking to buy Adventure Journal back issues (1-14 and 22) if anyone is holding.
