    Dear ILL Advised

I am in and out of this board as it fits my needs. I am wrong all the time but I think I have chatted here about you doing some time on a hotshot crew. You were smarter than I and left.

If I am correct we should talk I bet we have many folks we have crossed paths with or even worked with.

    Completely disagree.

Good to hear from you Yeti - I'm waiting for my luck to run out on injuries but damn, that bike story is not right.

Always have enjoyed IAS/Yeti’s posts. Great writing, and at times super relatable to me.

You’re a large part of why I got back on tgr while on furlough during a shitty ski season. I’m not a fire bro, but I work in timber and I bet we’ve crossed paths w/ some of the same folks.

One of the iconic forum members for sure. Glad to see ya around here. Missed for sure.

That injury sounds brutal, hope you can rehab well. I went through some overuse and health related injuries last year and am just now feeling stronger. Messes with your head for sure.

If you're old and want to feel young, just go on a cruise like the one to Scandinavia my wife dragged me on. No matter how old and decrepit you feel you will be the picture of health and fitness compared to those around you at the buffet.

I was in the vicinity of a Disney cruise letting out in Juneau and although I was probably older than many of the breeders that were disembarking and flooding the town to buy trinkets and fudge, I was physically younger in every way. Good to know I'm not missing out on anything.

This spring I was beginning to feel more physically solid, and decided to start bike commuting again after a few years of motorcycle and moped, and almost instantly I pulled every muscle from my knee to my shoulder and eventually ended up in the hospital with the worst spinal nerve pain imaginable, and 5 weeks off work, walking with a cane, etc.
It reminded me of a few years ago when I finally felt like my right shoulder was ok enough to paddle, and I called my surfing buddy and told him while I was driving to the ski hill, and 30 minutes later I had hooked a tip on tracked-up refrozen and destroyed my left shoulder.

I dunno, I am not dead yet, just deteriorating. It’s ok, circle of life.
I wish you all the best Yeti. Your willingness to share the good and some difficult challenges has touched people over the years.

As I write this I'm recovering from my third spine surgery and third surgery in the past 4 years (2 spine and 1 ACL). As my surgeon said to me last week, we are getting older and the parts are wearing out. For those like you and I we add some bad genes and here we are.

The Yoga talk is ironic to me. I got into hot yoga a year ago and felt better than I had in a decade. I was a 5 day a week guy - loved it and swore it's benefits. And then, popped another disk - doing yoga! I will probably go back to it, but will sure as fuck NOT be pushing myself to increase my spinal "flexibility".

Best of luck in focusing on all you can still do. Im right there fighting the same fight. I appreciate you sharing what I am often afraid to face.

One of the most highly regarded strength and conditioning coaches has some significant back issues. He has access to the best training PTs, Drs, etc. and can’t completely rehab it. He is strong as shit and lives a pretty normal life but still has to be careful with certain activities and movements.

^^ if someone tries to develop your lumbar spine flexibility, run. Thoracic spine mobility = good, lumbar = bad. Lumbar is a stabilizing area not a flexibility joint.

    hey, guys -
Just thinking about I-AS today -
we have fallen out of touch in the last couple years, and I just wanted to send some psychic Energy his way !

Several have noted above, his ability.as a writer ( I miss his posts, too ) -

I hope he recovered from his incapacitating body lock-up, and things are smoothing-out.

    roll on, -J
