Still Alive

[ill-advised strategy]

Just mentioning, fwiw, I’m still alive.

Young life was so fun, but freedom is not free…so I am paying the price for having destroyed my spine and knees and shoulders.



Motorcycles remain fun. I still love my wife and home and 14 y.o. dog.
But the adventurous athletic phase of life has come to a close.

Thanks for helping me get into fighting fire as a naive 22 year old kid. I'm now in my late 30s and have been dealing with some health issues for the past 1.5 years. Getting older is rough.

This totally cracks me up. Ages ago, maybe 30 years), my friend’s girlfriend, (who never works out), was yapping to me after one of my assorted many injuries. “Oh, you should do yoga!” I’m like, “Yeah…I’ve done lots of fancy stretching”, (yoga). “Oh, it’s different than stretching.” She even knew I was a gymnast.
Then I started ranting about if had time after my couple hour rides, or weightlifting or whatever the hell else I was doing, backcountry skiing, etc.
I have no idea what she’s doing these days. Prolly hot box, hot stone, SUP yoga on a pickle ball court.

Thx fellas. I had a clinical psychologist strongly reccomend some distance from ski media/social world, because at times it had become gut wrenching unresolvable fomo.

This spring I was beginning to feel more physically solid, and decided to start bike commuting again after a few years of motorcycle and moped, and almost instantly I pulled every muscle from my knee to my shoulder and eventually ended up in the hospital with the worst spinal nerve pain imaginable, and 5 weeks off work, walking with a cane, etc.
It reminded me of a few years ago when I finally felt like my right shoulder was ok enough to paddle, and I called my surfing buddy and told him while I was driving to the ski hill, and 30 minutes later I had hooked a tip on tracked-up refrozen and destroyed my left shoulder.

I dunno, I am not dead yet, just deteriorating. It’s ok, circle of life.

Clearly, this shrink has no experience or understanding of teh trgz.

I think it’s importanter to find new interests to replace the ones you’ve aged out of but I don’t think the way to get past fomo is avoidance.

I feel ya on the injuries. But youre still a great writer. It’s a gift i hope you keep using
