This should be selling plane tickets this year not next. Sadly I’m in the latter group with fingers crossed for a repeat.

    More smoke from yesterday

Too bad it is all over for now. It is winter holidays for the kids, tho, the sunshine will be welcome, and maybe the ski areas will get beyond having just a third of their the runs packed.

Yesterday, Valle Nevado had the entire upper mountain closed, and Andes Express did not appear to be running either. Major road trouble, same as above Farellones.

Kiddie holidays are peaking and the first jr racers have appeared. Pistes are fine packed powder. We took a swing by VN to see how the other half lives.

Not too bad it seems, one of several Bajo Cero terraces:

    US$8 a beer.

    It takes all kinds

    Splendid day

Del Inca, Tres Puntas, and Ancla not running.

Rumor has it the “Gringo” wants to a lift down this valley

Nice exposure, steep, and the snow blows in there.

    Coño! Cono Este looks good

    Gully run is set up

More interesting, for the oldest farts,

Hope this gringo skiburban art spotted today in LP isn’t a harbinger of more to come

Although warm with flat light, the skiing is good

    Ski Chile 2024 sputter sputter

Phew, kiddie holidays are over, for the most part. Some private schools have a different schedule, and now the universities are entering winter break, but aside from the July 13-16 and August 15-18 long weekends, there should now be "normal" crowds. I hope the ski areas finally made some money for the holidays.

Grooming has been in full swing, carving out the runs everywhere. Fabres in La Parva, and Del Inca and Ancla in VN, finally opened. Roca Jack in Portillo, and Don Otto in Chillan are also open. The runs are packed powder when groomed and hard pack with some piles of soft snow when not. Pockets of powder can be found on steeper sheltered south facing slopes.

In keeping with the stoke, Fabres

Capacho run with grandson and the Mrs

    Las Flores

Trying to photograph my grand son and daughter was not easy as they were either on my heels or passing me

    Style be damned

The forecast looks a lot like la Niña is kicking in

Just in from a brief fluke access to customs in Maule

"I did some probing indeed, it was always deeper than the probe length, 240 cm. Carabineros then told me that they don’t plan opening the road to customs until they clear all the road and open the pass. And the plans are to do so “in a month and a half”"

So access is limited to 5 km below there, where a workers camp and Valle Aguirre access is.
