I was about 150km (100mi ish) from the epicenter of a 7.8. house shook for 30 seconds that felt like 30 minutes. Had more than enough time to get out of the house and into the yard. there was a shaker when we were in the airport during the trip to Niseko and the staff were up on ladders looking behind ceiliing tiles checking the building for damage really quick like within < 15min, I think its just normal for them
