Push the Envelope: Heritage Labs RC85 and RC95

No metal?

To me, on a narrower ski, I have yet to find something smooth and damp that doesn't have 2 sheets of titanal unless I'm mistaken? Don't most of your inspiration skis have metal in them? Looking at the OG Legend Pro, Monster series, and Stockli Stormriders as examples.

After busting my ankle, relocating angle ligaments and mostly tearing my achilles so it's now stretched, I have found I like a ski 10mm narrower than in the past for the same conditions. Have ridden Marshal's Monster 88's way more than I care to so am definitely interested in both these skis. 1 to replace the Monster 88's and one to replace my 10yr old Stockli Stormrider 95's, before they underwent Stockli's lighter/softer program. But no metal???

They are insanely damp for no metal. Trust me, I love metal in a narrow ski. Love the Monster series because of this. Have owned several of them and have the 82 green top sheet liquidmetals on my ski rack in the shop, love that ski. Skied the 85 and 95 back to back to back with my R99 COMPs which is a Blossom race room build with metal. These skis are just as damp, if not a touch more so. The 85’s were stiffer fosho. We had them on some very firm, damn near BP snow and they surprised me at how damp they were. Buy with confidence.

I think my favorite ski without metal that was stiff, damp and stable was the G3 Reverend. I’m sure there are others

It's the type of wood, core profile/thickness, weight/mass, and the full sheet of rubber! I think of metal as torsional rigidity. The og cambered mantras (94 and 96mm waisted versions) had metal for days and gripped like a mofo but they pinged like a tuning fork. I have not been on the rc85 or rc95 but every freeride build HL ski i have been on is buttah. I cannot speak to the effect on torsional stiffness gain or edgegrip that metal does or doesn't add to this design, but i can almost guarantee they will feel smooth

Yessir! Since the RC are narrower (ie less bamboo and rubber) I added next-level damping special sauce to really make these things insanely smooth while also having a nicely lively responsive feel too.

I think folks coming from Monster 88 and 98 in particular (but also lots of other stuff in this class) are going be really really happy.

They use them in the Telos factory

Sorry for making a joke with the “special sauce” comments. not trying to be vague or anything. I just really really hate when brands try to brand normal or iterative ingredients as revolutionary game changing tech. It’s just called using the right materials in the right places for the desired effect. trying to cloak off the shelf materials in secrecy and buzz terms is just juvenile and lame, haha.

in this case, since the RC skis are narrower, they by definition have less material, are lighter and less damp than a wider ski (which due to extra width has more rubber, resin, bamboo etc).

To counteract that, I specced TPU sidewalks on the RC skis vs the UHMW sidewalls (which add a little rebound to damp wide skis, and are unfukwitable vs rocks).

so anyhow! There you go. I really think these skis are something awesome and so fired up for everyone to ski them.

Is that essentially the same Polyurethane that Dynastar uses in their cores? First they started with the MFree line and then they moved it to their MPro line. (I think.)

Got mine yesterday. Can't seem to post pics..... Let's just saw Marshal has outdone himself w/ this ski. The Construction from gp87 is top shelf. The flex is near i-beam status.

If the 105 has the personality of Gus Fring, then the comp 99 is Gordon Ramsay, ergo the ZF 85 is David Goggins.

These ones go to 11.

The “super comp” prototypes make the r99 Comp feel like floppy noodles.

Just wanted that to be clear about which version of the RC85 you are on.

I guess any RC85 or RC95 that is being skied at this time (spring 2024) are going to be the flex 11 prototypes).

I’ve only skied the R87 comps, and I love them

I think marsh mentioned that the shorter versions of RC85 (178 cm) and RC95 (180 cm) would be 24mR

are all your skis produced out of the states? Any hopes/plans to try to produce anything here?
