Push the Envelope: Heritage Labs RC85 and RC95

And my journey to quiver overhaul 2024 continues. I have been watching the HL story develop over the last year and really wanted to replace my L138's with C132 / FR132's. Then MO drops the 120ST and I grab a set. They over performed all my expectations. After one day on them I decided to not miss out on the FR132 and ordered some. After 5-6 days on the 120ST and being completely mind blown in less than ideal conditions, I pull the trigger on a pre order R110 for a when its good but not fresh DD. Now this RC95 comes in as a true EC DD. The best part is MO and HL is a worthy cause and makes me feel good supporting. Now off to GS to clear out more of the old quiver.

The 182 should be ample.

I am 5’10 and > 200lbs.

Marshal is > 6’ and > 200lbs.

The 182 length is a deliberate choice to allow to ski in ways you can’t on your long skis.

EE is likely longer than your Brahma, and the stability definitely will be.

I was just pondering a 191 r90 with the same shape as the bc90. If you’re going to say it’s a narrow pow ski it’s going to need to have longer lengths for some. The RC85 sounds a lot like the original MX83, I’d want longer but I’m an outlier on the size scale at 6’5” 245#.

Something along the lines of a Nobis Inspired/Legend 8800 in 188 and HL lay up and modern shaping.

We decided to target the middle of the range to start to ensure hitting MOQs.

If there is significant demand for middle size, I think shorter and longer will eventually happen but only if the middle size proves to be a good seller.

So tell all your average friends to buy a pair. ;-)

Getting this thread back on track, I’m interested in the tail profile on these skis. I’m gonna ski my Legend 94s until they die, and I’m thrilled MO and TAFKALWS have solved the replacement ski hunt before it even started. But the tails on the L94s and many of the other reference skis are quite a bit flatter than the RC95 appears to my eye. I can absolutely see the advantage of loosening up the tails a touch on a ski like this, but I’m curious whether they’ll retain the fat GS ski character or take on more of a skinny comp ski vibe with that tweak.

Yeah, another plea for shorter versions of each! Or even just one of the two, preferably the RC85 since I already have the FL105 and it would be easier to differentiate between those two widths.

Had the FL105 out today in fact. Man, it is so smooth. The thought of that layup in a narrower version for firm, East Coast spots has me drooling. I'm tempted to just say screw it and grab the 182cm but I know how that story ends.

yessir, I really wish there was more interest in the 17x-180 skis. I break even on a mold (ie don’t lose money) at 10 pair and a minimum order is 5 pair.

There were only 5 pair of 180 FR110 ordered all of last preorder, only 2x pair of 178 FL105 sold, with 3 pair still in stock from the first pressing; and I think only 2x 180 swallowtails (across all 3 versions!) have been ordered.

Hope that helps clarify! I’d love to offer them, certainly, but need real orders to justify investing $1000’s into them!

It may not be on the "inspired by" list, but this 95 shape and description remind me a lot of my OG(1.5) Enforcers. Those are cold-dead-hands skis for me still, but when they die this will be high on my list.

Holy cow, I had no idea.

I'm honestly trying to do my part: FL105 (178), FR110 (180), R110 (181) preorder, R120 ST (180) preorder.

This info makes that RC85 183cm more tempting.
