My .02.... The FR profile makes perfect sense for the 120. I want my deep snow ski to be neutral and drifty. The R makes sense on the 110 because when things firm up a bit or aren't as deep I want to be able to drive the ski a bit more.

^ My opinion is the opposite: I love the R120 swallowtail and FR110. For me R120 handles pow just fine and I prefer the long low rocker for getting back to the lift. Also the part of the point of the swallowtail is to sink in pow and the bigger tail rocker on the FR won’t be as planted. I prefer the FR110 as my soft snow tree ski and treating the mountain like a skatepark/gap & grind everything when it’s soft. That’s why these options exist in both skis: different strokes for different folks.
For the sake of TGR I have to say that because you don't agree with my opinion, you clearly don't know how to ski.
After a few years here I'm just starting to learn how this place works.
I'll add that my bias as a Renegade skier is showing. I love that ski and found it's only weakness to be in chop. The FR120 solves that and yet skis very similarly. The swallow tail works a lot like the tail taper on the Ren. The mount point is almost the same. I also don't mind the full reverse skiing back to the lift. I think they're super fun to carve on soft groomers. Definitely not on ice, but if it's icy there are better options.
MO definitely is making these decisions difficult by offering awesome options. I'd like to ski them all. I'd also like to have some snow in the forecast so I could ski the FR120 more.
I've typed up this reply like three times now, but with how slow the site is I keep getting errors trying to post... so lets see if it works this time.
Day two on the BC 120. Decided to give it a real test and rode the chairlift at Silverton.
Conditions were a little more of a mixed bag than my touring day, mostly deep windblown pow, with some firm windboard up high and chop in the gullies.
I am extremely impressed with these skis. I got to really open them up through an untracked alpine line and they came to life. Driving through the balls of my feet they disappeared at 30+ MPH, tails release smoothly while slashing for those tasty faceshots. In deep trees they popped and played on the terrain features like my FR110 but with just a little more float and input required... I even aired my biggest hit of the season without a second thought. In soft chopped gully bumps they had far more composure than a ski of this weight ought to. I only felt like I had to reign it in slightly in comparison to my FR110s paired w/alpine boots. Firm windboard... manageable, the bio feedback directly into my bum knee was tough. The loss of dampness from the FR build was noticeable on that type of terrain. I was a little sore that evening and the next day in a way I haven't been skiing the FR builds. Also, I smoked a rock at 20+ during my first 4 turns and they only have a small 12"x2mm deep gouge... impressive durability.
I've been looking for a versatile deep pow touring ski and I think this is it for me. Bravo Marshal!
Quite the pow quiv. Since you have all those, what do you think of the GT (assume that is moment ghost train)? Also How would you compare it to the FR120?Originally Posted by K1mJ0ngTr1ll
I snagged a pair of 194 GTs from the latest drop that are sitting in plastic still, but given how much I’m loving the R110s I’m debating passing them along or using for HL credit and grabbing a FR120ST instead. Though seems a crime to not ski them, since they are so cool.
Stoked to finally have a delivery date from USPS (1/14) on some 193 (192 now?) FR120s headed my way. I even splurged and got some harlaut 2.0 cuz I thought the white/red would look nice.
Rode my 194cm devastators yesterday and between having a blast on the few inches of fresh on those and my recollection of enjoying WNDR's reverse camber 120mm ski, I'm stoked to get on the FR120s.
What tune are people running on the R120 ST…. set the bevels to 1.5* base and 2* side edge with detune in taper section? I want them schmeary.
Thx

I love big dumps.
I’m at 2/2 bevels on mine.
adds about 20% more drift, still bites and hooks up with full edge angles
I think 1.5/2 works for me on being a drift machine. 2/2 was too loose for me but I know MO loads the ski a lot more than I am able to.
Learning about ski design and tuning from MO and Todd at 7even skis here has been a shitload of fun and a bit of an awakening for my skiing.
Piling on the praise with ASmiley, the Swallowtail BC has been totally excellent so far. Been going back and forth between a 191 Ren and 187 ST. The ST feels less see-saw-ey at low speed while being similarly loose at speed. The ST seems to get knocked around less in variable than the BC110.
After a few years of bouncing between Moonlight cruiser 50/50s that were light but not my favorite shape and Rens that are a bit heavy for longer days, I think it may be time to sell the moonlights and put an alpine binding on the Ren.
Alrighty, well you bastards convinced me. Just ordered a pair of the 187 R120s that were still available. Hopefully they're as good as everyone here is claiming! -7.5 the consensus? 300 bsl

Updates. My beta was at -8 on the R 110 and 120 betas
-eight on my R-Dimes.

every thread is a good thread for HL stoke
I feel like staring at my HLs is almost as good as skiing them.
Marshal,
No more one eighty length FR one twenty STs?

Well, so I haven’t gotten a confirmed order on them at all yet, which is my filter for “do people want these”. As new shapes get developed and rolled in, the stuff that doesn’t see orders is correspondingly trimmed to keep some vague semblance of order in the world!
