    NCAA and NIL Debacle

Apparently the NCAA leaked that Tennessee was under investigation which has sparked a major uproar. Apparently, after NCAA lost and NIL came into existence, under NCAA's current policies, the funding source of the NIL for colleges cannot engage with a player until after the player files a Letter of Intent with a college. So, the player is running blind on how much NIL will be offered until after the committment.

NCAA is apparently after Tennessee and Florida for having boosters fly prospects in private aircraft prior to commitment.

On Wednesday, the Attorney Generals for Tennessee and Virgina filed suit in the US District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee alleging Sherman Anti-Trust violations. I read the suit, and after several rulings against the NCAA, all of which were cited in the complaint, the position seems pretty solid. Of course, the NCAA has yet to respond.

Likely another blow to NCAA's monopoly on college sports in the making.

My plan would be secession. Take the SEC powers and money, and tell the NCAA to shove it.

My plan would be secession in a different direction.

If they want to run a professional sports league, take the NCAA AND the teams and stop intermingling finances with places that are supposed to be schools.

And yes, outside of the very top performing teams, there's a ton of intermingling of finances. Most D1 football and basketball teams are money-losers if you account for them correctly. Gets even worse if you account for their Title IX obligations (have to fund significant women's sports in order to field the men's teams)...which maybe isn't a "fair" comparison, but there's nothing they can do about Title IX so long as the teams are owned by a university.

The NCAA has created quite a problem for themselves in becoming the minor leagues for the NFL and NBA.

Fuck the NCAA. Also fuck big college sports bloat. If NFL wants an amateur league, it can do it without siphoning off college funding.

At this point I can't say I'd really mind if the entire NCAA got burnt down and we'll see what emerges from the ashes.

That's kind of my perspective. The entire organization seems entirely arbitrary from my uninformed perspective.

If the NCAA wants to continue this fight, they are toast. Kinda hard to believe some of these schools are still listening to the what they have to say. It is my understanding that if Tez Walker wasn't declared eligible before the Miami game last season, Mack was gonna play him anyway, backed by the school and the state AG, with the understanding that they would just win it in court.

This is laughable: there's so much corruption in the NCAA around NIL deals and the "collectives" that are now (allegedly) associated with each major college. Fuck, look at the recent "news" that Deion Sanders' KIDS were going to buy him a $7MM house in Golden. What the fuck.

Players should get paid something (other than a fucking free education).

But the way it’s working now is a goddamn disgrace.

Got a shitty team this year? No worries! Just yank a bunch of scholarships and go buy a new team through the transfer portal!

My alma mater’s B-ball team has one player remaining from last year’s team that finished near the bottom of the Big East.

    ^^^The new reality^^^

If you are a mediocre team built around a couple of monster recruits, they are gone. I.e. Dalton Kenect. Goes to Tennessee for his final year, becomes an instant NBA draft choice. Regrets not being there his entire career, meaning I could have been a millionaire with Tennessee's NIL $$$$
