    2024 College Football Thread

Texas, Tennessee, Notre Dame, Penn State, Ohio State would all kick the shit out of Boise. Not saying Boise doesn’t belong in the tourney, but #[emoji639]????

I mean you’re probably not wrong but it’s not Boise’s fault that the Power 4 built in an auto bid & bye for the top 4 conference winners and then the ACC pooped their pampers. Arizona State didn’t “deserve” a bye either, they weren’t even ranked like three weeks ago.

I mean they’ll probably blow it….but Penn State has a decent path through two games….(at least based on schedule strength of SMU/Boise)

I actually think BSU will beat Penn St but get crushed by Georgia. BSU matches up well against Penn St and Franklin is a whiny assed bitch with a talent for losing big games.

He blamed last night on the refs and made snide comments about Gabriel and Lanning after the game. What a fucking loser. No wonder they’re stuck.

Regardless, Oregon ran pretty effectively against them which means Jeanty will feast.

Bama's A game beats everyone else's A game. But Bama brought their A game for approximately 6 quarters the whole year. Thy simply were not a good enough team to make the playoffs, despite having (arguably) the best talent in CFB. They lost 3 games and still nearly made the playoff. Their schedule doesnt need to be re-evaluated, they just need to not lose 3 games! I guarantee Nick Saban would say the exact same thing.

The BCS era was bullshit trying to pick the top 2 teams. The 4 team playoff era had it right, IMO- made it so you had to be championship caliber team the whole year as is traditional with CFB. This 12 team playoff is too pro-like where the regular season counts a whole lot less and you can have an up-and-down season, get hot at the end and win a natty. I liked it when the CFB champion had to have a magical season that was nearly flawless. So, when/if a 2 loss or 3 loss team whines about not making it in, it just grinds my gears... if you want to be the national champion you should prove you are the best in the country EVERY WEEK, and if you lost 2 or 3 teams i have a hard time accepting you are deserving of being called the best team in CFB.

Lane Kiffin has increasingly been one of my favorite personalities in CFB to listen to. Always responding to Bama's BS and stirring the pot.

Count me among the many happy that Bama will be playing my Wolverines in the **checks notes** the Bourbon Bowl? who knows, some such shit that will have plenty of alumni attend. Extra points that Bama has to play a down Michigan team instead of one of the other teams that just missed out on the Playoff. Salt in the wound.

If they went with strength of schedule, there would be 10 SEC teams in the tourney. Georgia is very beatable, especially on a neutral field without their possie of hand-picked officials.

If Tennessee gets through Ohio State, we have a great shot at making the semi-finals.

Moneyline: Tennessee (+200), Ohio State (-250)
Spread: Tennessee (+7), Ohio State (-7)
The over/under for this CFP first-round matchup is 46.5

Hope the odds makers are right, and Nico shows up along with the offensive line!

Ken, I think the old adage of SEC dominance is proving to be less and less true. NIL has brought a lot of parity to the game and while Lane and Saban can whine all they want, there isn't a clear leader in this playoff, SEC or not. Ten SEC teams? Come on, man.

The SEC teams have deep pockets in their collectives. A fellow I know probably puts $20mm in the collective annually. He also has two buildings on the UT campus named after him as well as the Vet clinic. There are tons of those folks in the SEC. Money buys teams, just ask the Mets.

There is a reason they won't use a strength of power analysis, just as the conference winners get an automatic bye.

But, I do agree that it will be an interesting playoff to see how parity works out. I will still bet that it is likely that three of the final four will be SEC teams.

Free student tuition for his girlfriend.

Not sure if room and board or her sorority dues are included or not.

In all fairness, that was arguably Oregon’s worst performance of the year in terms of unforced errors, penalties and general sloppiness. They started horribly with Idaho, then it actually got worse before they put it together. That said, I do think BSU will shock some people in the playoffs. It’s easy for folks who haven’t seen them actually play to write them off but they’re a fucking good football team. It’s happened before…

Are you arguing that the SECs deep pockets make them immune to the equalizing effects of NIL? Not sure there’s that much discrepancy.
