    STH2 WTR/MNC Question - Grip Walk Compatability

Sorry if already asked, I searched and can't find.

Read elsewhere on the interwebs that STH2 13 WTR was recently deemed able to be used with Grip Walk soles - which I believe is what I have on my Technica Cochises. I bought a couple pairs of STH2 16 MNC because I thought that I needed MNC for the Cochise. I definitely don't need the high DIN, I'm at the bottom of the range.

Any info or is there a weight advantage to trading down to the 13 WTR? Haven't mounted them yet and could flip for cheaper 13s.

    TIA

The delta is different between the MN and the WTR, by memory 2mm higher on the WTR, I prefer higher deltas like most euro skiers so I stick to the WTR version.

But it shouldn’t be a night and day difference by any means.

Yes, grip walk boots like the Cochise will work with WTR bindings like the STH2.
I couldn't say if you'd see any significant weight savings.

I have sets of both 13 and 16 wtr sitting on the shelf--the 16s definitely feel like they have a heavier heel piece (more metal), but I can throw them on a scale if you want.

That said, I wouldn't bother swapping between them for alpine skis. If your preferred DIN is in the range of both bindings, just use what you've got.

Fair enough, just bummed because I could have had WTRs for a lot less when I bought them but it was said that it wouldn't work with my boot at the time. They are going on narrower East Coast skis and non-touring powder sticks, so a little weight won't matter much. Was on much older, perfectly fine but non-indemnified binders, but developed a knee issue last year and was paranoid that the universe was telling me to modernize before I messed up and had an even bigger issue.

Thanks for the feedback, will mount them up.

I threw them on the scale and there was less difference than I thought. Both are WTR, but I doubt the MNC weights are very different.

    STH2 13:
    Toe: 393g
    Heel + Track: 580g
    100mm Brake: 166g
    Total: 1139g

    STH2 16
    Toe: 445g
    Heel + Track: 603g
    100mm Brake: 166g
    Total: 1214g

So only a 75g per foot difference.

Appreciate that - so not worried about the weight. Just that the 16 MNCs were about $75 or $100 more than the 13 WTRs at the time I bought them. Oh well, not my most fiscally irresponsible thing this year (see trip reports forum - ha ha...) Thanks again singlesline and everyone

Don't worry--I overpaid for this used set of 16 WTRs despite having the 13s on the shelf simply because I wanted them in blue to match my custom order praxis topsheets...

and then I had to buy new brakes too because the only blue ones I could find came with 90mms
