The Angels paid through the nose for Rendon and Trout and had Ohtani for years, and never went anywhere. The Mets tying up 20% of their luxury threshhold on a single player (that failed to move the needle for the Yanks in 2024) seems like a heavy overpay.

Ohtani was worth the massive contract because of the marketability of him and the Dodgers in Japan, but paying more for Soto, who is admittedly a generational talent, but has a significantly lower market return, seems risky.
Mets have built a good farm system, and a tremendous core of good players with Lindor, Diaz, Senga, & Polar bear if he stays & more.

and The Yankees are a dumpster fire. When they traded for Soto from the Padres ahead of the 2024 season, the Yanks sent Michael King, Drew Thorpe, Jhony Brito, Randy Vasquez, and Kyle Higashioka to San Diego, with King emerging as one of the best pitchers in baseball last season.
The Yankees have Judge & Cole & then well, yeah.

Saw both teams a few times live last season and saw the Mets really push the Dodgers in the playoffs and the Yankees roll/bend over. There is no question which franchise has more upside going into 2025 and beyond.

Yankees are a team of the past until Cashman leaves

2 points: 1, how can you say that Soto didn't move the needle for the Yankees? They made the WS for the first time in 15 years, FFS. And 2, overpay or not, Cohen can afford it and doesn't seem to be worried about the luxury tax payments and they don't seem to affect what he spends on the team, so I don't see much risk.

I'm hard pressed to think of more than one hand's worth of long term (10+) year deals that worked out well for the team. They always work out well for the player, and more power to them if they can get it, but hey.

Votto, Trout (could argue he belongs on the other side of this list), Jose (although his is a 7 year deal on top of the first 4 years so, I'm counting it), Ohtani (calling it good as of right now with no further evidence necessary), Harper?, Judge?...

The list of guys who got old and tired while still in the middle/latter half of their long term deals is... well, long. The Reds are still paying Ken Griffey Jr. Rendon, Strasburg, Miggy?
    iMookie Betts!

already brought the Dodgers 2 rings and continues to be, well Mookie Betts on and off the field and will be for a while.
Even as just an occasional DH & mascot in the early 2030s I think we will be very very happy

    oh FOR FUCKS SAKE.

Guardos trade 3x consecutive Gold Glover, with a Platinum Glove in there, to Toronto for __________!?!?!?!

I get it that last year's #1 pick in the draft is a 2B and would have taken over eventually, but you can't slide Gime to SS and get rid of Bryan friggin Rocchio?

Stupid move unless there's a haul coming back. That said, this Front Office has more than earned trust... we'll see how this one goes.

seems like the tgr branded app is cooked on the new ios. i’m going to try the regular tapatalk app to see what it’s like.

anyway, enjoy these completely random Max Fried highlights.

Well, looks like we flipped the guys from Toronto for a starting pitcher, Ortiz, from PIT and 2 minor league pitchers.

    In Antonetti we trust…

Yes! Tom Hamilton, voice of Cleveland baseball for 34 years is finally given his due and is named this year's Ford C. Frick Award winner, placing him rightfully in the Hall of Fame.

You won't find many better than Hammy, and while he's provided so many memorable calls, this one is still my favorite

What's wild is that punch, that game, essentially knocked (pun intended) Tim Anderson out of baseball. He was a silver slugger and 2x all start the year before, and was sent to the minors shortly after that game, bounced around to the Marlins, and hasn't been seen in the Major Leagues since.

Dave Parker and Dick Allen are both deserving Hall of Famers and it seems appropriate they will enter together. They definitely share some similarities. Both dangerous hitters and journeyman whose personal issues sometimes overshadowed their play.

I don't read "top closer" as "very best closer"
