I've been reading The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion. (You know, just some light holiday fluff.) In it she mentions an article her husband wrote about Willie Mays for The Saturday Evening Post. I haven't been able to pull up the issue itself online, but did find the cover and ToC.
Nothing/everything changes. So long ago, seems like yesterday.

I think so, but I haven't had to walk that path yet, so maybe not, really.
I guess as painful as it was for her to write it, she found some measure of solace in doing so. I hope in the reading it was the same for you.

I believe the article was titled 'Buck' and you should be able to read a copy of it in the Internet archive. https://archive.org/details/regardss...0dunn/mode/1up
Could be my searching skills, but I still couldn't find the actual article. However, your link pointed me to this anthology of Dunne's writing, and I was able to find a copy of it at my local library.
Prefer curling up with an actual book in my hands anyway, so thanks for the pointer - looks like a terrific read!

Age 49, NYE with a sick family and I was in bed by 10:45pm.
My wife had cataract surgery this morning.
Well hopefully her results are as outstanding as my ski sister as she went from pretty blind to great vision.
I'm stuck waiting for my cataracts to get bad enough that surgery will be approved. Meanwhile my quality of life is suffering due to the other vision problems besides cataracts that will get fixed by the surgery. I'm apparently too young.
Talk to me when you're Riser5.
My buddy was mid 60s once they approved her. Night vision was really bad.
I know I'm getting old, as I'm just getting lazy as fuck. I did a lot today in taking down Christmas lights, mow and blowing the yard, washing the car, covering up all the outdoor furniture before the rain got here and when it came time to wax my skis, I was just out of gas and made an appointment for them to do it when I arrive on Thursday, which is a first.
dude rub that shit on quick in the lot and go ski. keep face and get stoned Thursday instead
