    We’re taking a lap.

Driving out of the Bozeman doughnut hole and coming to Utah for a few.

We were well advised to miss the shitshow of LCC on a weekend so thinking Snowbasin for the weekend will be less shitty?
Anyone around Snowbasin this weekend? Recommend a camping spot there? Any help appreciated.

Mon/Tues at Alta/Bird… we’ve got a spot there thanks to telefree. Many thanks.

Wed/Thurs at the Beav meetup… ski ya there!

Hit my boss up for that raise. Instead, he said "how about we just go to Alta?"

    First time...I'm a fan.

    Now back to Montana.

The graupel skiing at Snowbird yesterday was silky smooth goodness, hope that layer does not cause problems when the next storm rolls in.

Hazard from graupel snowfall falls to bout zero after 8 hrs or so.
Exception being where it piles up deep under cliff bands, etc. overweighting rotten snow if its gathered there.
Bout the fastest stabalizing snow form there is...
Oh and it skis kinda surfy, eh?

That was a wierd snow day. Four flavors.
    Started spackle. Went great graupel.
Dropped the T down to Watson for water and pocket snacks and the graupel turned to sugar (I guess it was just super deep untracked graupel)! That was trippy. After the break went to savor that sugar line and it was powder. Closing bell was freshies all over.

Today was awesome. Backside first run after being closed for days was sweet. Catherine’s was lapped extensively.

Nothing Utah blower this trip but great fun was had. Hate to leave but Jackson is getting the goods next week and I need more.

Not really knowing our way around, we just lucked into this zone on our 3rd run. There was still a lot of untracked snow. Super fun.

I follow this thread and understand the frustration dealing with crowds, traffic, etc. But Alta was cool...and an absolutely beautiful landscape. It was also interesting not having snowboarders around.

    I'll be back for sure.

I'm in town for a bit and started the trip off with something we don't really have up in the PNW - roadside chutes. Super good snow conditions, super easy and fun access. Unfortunately some kook dropped in on top of us (he knew we were there), triggered a small slab and took my partner and I for a ride. Luckily everyone is alright, a bit jarring to have that happen, but I know there's a lot of ski pressure around here.

Glad you're OK! How did he know you were there? While that does really suck, it's a risk you assume if you proceed to climb when there's a booter in.

Thanks! We had talked to him at the last transition point where nd talked about finishing it to the top as a group, but he pulled ahead while we were faffing with gear. We were probably 5-10 min behind. But it's a good point, I would have been very wary and put in a new booter if we hadn't just talked to the guy. Either way, walked out of it and it's a good lesson that if someone isn't in your group you can't assume they follow the same ethic as you I guess.

Yeesh, that's a supremely douchey move for him to pull knowing you're just a few minutes behind.

Not many get to luge the Y.
    Select few.
    Well done.
Can think of worse places to get sluffed outta.
Not the first or last time fellow enthusiasts and natural avalanches have caused havoc on those in their tracks in that path.
