This thread is intended to go along with the Eagle Peak Ski Resort thread and the Shred Dishman Hills project that I have started. In the Eagle Peak thread, I have documented with photos all of the available skiing terrain in Dishman Hills during a typical Spokane Winter and identified key resources and assets in the community for people visiting and recreating in the area. However, I had to leave out photos of Iller Creek, because it is not for skiing it is for mountain biking. The Iller Creek Drainage of the Dishman Hills Conservancy holds what is in my opinion the best mountain biking in the county as it allows for longer laps and loops then Beacon Hill. You can even make a day of it and take your bike all the way up to the Rocks Of Sharon which I did over a decade ago. Mount Spokane would be the best riding if you were able to get a ride to the top of the mountain in the Summer so that you could get a free +3000' descent (which I have done). The point is I have an injured shoulder right now so I was out at Iller Creek yesterday just hiking and I made it a point to get photos of all the gnarly features and lines that I had identified over the years of mountain biking and hiking in this area. So let's check it out...
This is my favorite line off the Eastern trail when headed out from the trailhead:
This is the path you have to take from the switchback to get to the above line:
Here you can see the trail across the drainage leading down Brown's (Tower?) Mountain, beware is has a gnarly rut down the steep part: Take this NW trail (this photo is looking North) to get to this above trail:
The flowy part of the central drainage down by Iller Creek:
And here is the gnar:
So yes, although there are specific features of Beacon Hill that are gnarlier, you get a much more fulfilling adventure with the trails at Iller Creek imo. If anyone is able to get some good photos or video of cycling on these trails then please post them here. I had a bunch of footage of this area but released it to the inter-webz many years ago.
So there is a chain bike store in Spokane that would be an excellent place for anyone looking to ride in Dishman Hills, whether at what I call the Eagle Peak Ski Resort or Iller Bike Park. This would be the bike hub. https://thebikehub.com/pages/locations They have a location in the Valley and on the South Hill (in the Perry District where I live), as well as downtown. Good, friendly, knowledgable staff and a great source of information and assistance.
If you are looking for the resources and facilities associated with Dishman Hills and this thread that I refer to as the Iller Bike Park, then please head over to the ski and snowboard discussion where they are posted, listed, and explained in the Eagle Peak Ski Resort thread. You would also find information on skiing in Dishman Hills in this thread, including the backside of Iller Creek - Stevens Creek (Rocks of Sharon) https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...eak+Ski+Resort
