Watch this interview with one of the survivors of the music festival (celebrating peace & love btw). Glad he survived, but man. He's gonna have some serious PTSD from what he witnessed that day. Poor guy.

Heard a guy explain how the US is not interested in getting involved in Gaza, at all, but it’s the hostage thing. Take American hostages and you fucked around and found out. I think a lot of people are over looking that. He said we’ll go in fast and hard if we locate any.

I wish people would stop using the “fuck around and find out “ phrase, it’s stupid. Americans are taken hostage and held in foreign countries frequently and we don’t go in “fast and hard”. I’m really glad the people in charge have more control over their emotions than the average blow hard internet operator.

The advantage Gaza has over a place like Nepal is its strategic and geographic significance. After WWII the United States poured billions into Germany and Japan not out of charity but as a bulwark against Stalin and the Soviet Union.

The Saudi peace strategy is about establishing a new trade route from India to Europe through Saudi Arabia & Israel as a bulwark against communist China. Gaza (and the West Bank) could benefit. If Gaza were to accept the rules of the maritime based international order, most importantly respecting the sovereignty of neighbors, they could thrive on the Mediterranean. It wouldn't happen over night. More like a generation, 20-30 years. Just look at the success of Israel in the resource poor desert. It's incredible.

Hamas can do tactical planning but they can't do strategy which plays into the hands of religious fundamentalists throughout the region. They have to go primarily because they are terrorists. They have to go secondarily because they reject any kind of Palestinian state building as a generational project.

I’m thinking we find out where the hostages are and instead of sending in boots we just bomb the location. You want to send a message of “fuck around and find out “, that sends a message.

In my mind if violence is the answer it shouldn’t be measured, what’s the point? More people will die with boots on the ground and nothing will be accomplished. We’ve maintained order with a monopoly of violence, the Pax Americana. We’re slipping, so I think diplomacy is the best choice if saving lives of all people is important. Measured violence is the worst option of the violent options.
