RAT looks great but looks like I'll be in that area mid week - the construction on 50 will likely keep me away.

Salida, Middle Frisco, Penitente Canyon are on the short list.

Excuse this east coast flat lander's ignorance - can I assume Middle Frisco and the upper areas of Salida are bear country?
Ridden Salida more time than I can count and never seen a bear or even scat on a trail.
Stop at Absolute Bikes for best trail beta.

Yeah I saw lots of thru hikers with bear cans the first couple days on the CT. Then no Bear cans after that LOL. I think Rocky Mtn NP requires them but I've only ever seen a few bears in CO.

Good to know, thanks. Boggy was pretty fast/fun after a few days of hike a bike on CT, Bear/Sharkstooth, Calico etc. Haven't done those other rides. North side of Phil's is new I think since I was there last. Been a while.

Just rode Sage Hen. Pretty fun for sure. Thanks for the tip on that one.

Will be in the area the next few days if any locals want to ride. Thinking of Calico, maybe Ryman to Salt since it's been mentioned a few times. Maybe out and back on Bear. Possibly Boulder Gulch by Silverton.
