    RIP Sinead O'Connor

Only 56 years old - it appears her mental health issues were overwhelming.

The Lion and the Cobra was in heavy rotation my first junior year of college…

Her vocals were so cool, easing from croon to caterwaul with such finesse.

Her voice was amazing. And ripping up a pic seems so inconsequential now but insanely huge when she did it She had huge balls.

She was amazing. Troubled, yes, but it troubled seems to be prerequisite to genius.

A week after the SNL incident I was lucky enough to be second row center for Bob Dylan’s 30th Anniversary show at MSG. So many big names, Clapton, Lou Reed, Ron Wood, Neil Young, Tom Petty, Eddy and Mike from this new band called Pearl Jam etc… Booker T and the MG’s were the house band. Sinead was slated to play, Every Grain of Sand, maybe the best tune from Bob’s, Born Again phase. I was really looking forward to it. She came out and was roundly booed, I couldn’t understand it, it was brutal. She just stood there and you could see that it affected her. After about two minutes of that, Kris Kristofferson walked out and put his hand on her shoulder. She turned and said something, he leaves the stage and she breaks into an acapella version of War, by Bob Marley. I still get chills thinking about it. Thankfully she stuck around and came out at the end for the massive all-star jam and did her best Axl Rose impersonation during Knocking on Heavens Door.
She was awesome, so sad she’s gone.
Loved the Reggae cover album she did, her version on Burning Spear’s, Marcus Garvey is awesome.

I wonder if she ever got an apology from the Catholic Church for being right? The shit she had to put up with for merely stating the truth was appalling.

I hope her next plane of existence is kinder to her than this one. What an incredible talent. I was smitten by her music and her appearance, always. RIP Sinead, you'll be missed.

Do you really wonder? Think you know the answer.
"fuck off you asshat gaper shit for brains fucktard wanker." - Jesus Christ
"She was tossing her bean salad with the vigor of a Drunken Pop princess so I walked out of the corner and said.... "need a hand?"" - Odin
"everybody's got their hooks into you, fuck em....forge on motherfuckers, drag all those bitches across the goal line with you." - (not so) ill-advised strategy

Her singing of War at the Bob Dylan concert was her way of standing up.

One of her credos was "ruthless compassion". Words we can all live by. Love you Sinead.

Yeah Danno, I do know the answer. Fuck.
Thanks for all your posts on this. Shared grief somehow helps.

Holy ish that live version is amazing.
I had never heard this track before, either.
Her phrasing and inflection here elevates it way above the studio version (which I just listened to for the first time after watching this video).

It’s kind of annoying and a shame that she is being largely remembered for her SNL appearance and her cover of that Prince song instead of for moving original songs and performances such as this…
