Yamato Ski Transport (Black Cat) - HND to Aomori beta/advice

Anyone with recent experience with Yamato Ski Transport (Black Cat) - HND to Aomori (or similar from HND) ??

Short version - Which is less hassle: 1- Just hauling my big backpack and roller ski bag on trains from HND Terminal 1 to Aomori Station ( 2 transfers) or 2 - Getting from Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 ( with big backpack and roller ski bag), finding the Yamato Ski Transport (Black Cat) desk ( Term 2, 3rd floor ?), going thru the purchase/shipping process for the roller ski bag, and just take the big backpack on the train...

I tried using the website https://www.global-yamato.com/en/han...l_airport.html , but not very successful in figuring out cost for 1 roller ski bag, confirm can get roller ski bag to Aomori Station on time, etc.

Arrive HND Term1 morning of Jan 19, and just need to be able to get roller ski bag late morning of Jan 20 at Aomori Station.

Thx in advance for any helpful info/advice.

With that short timeline just bring the skis in the trains, minor hassle but then you have your skis when you get to Aomori.

We tried using their service but was told it would take 3 days for the skis to arrive in Furano so it doesn’t sound like it’ll work for you

It takes them usually 24 to 48 hours so that probably won’t work in your timeframe. They usually tell it’ll take longer than it actually will so you won’t complain if it actually takes them longer because it’ll for you. It will seem like it showed up on time

If you’re gonna go on the train with your stuff, make sure you book the seat at the end of the car. There will be room behind that seat for oversized luggage. Otherwise, it’ll be difficult to find a place big enough to store your skis. Bring a belt or a strap with you or something like that. When I didn’t have the space behind the seat, I strapped it to the wall in between cars. It seemed to work.

Where do you plan on skiing Saturday the 25th? I’ll do my best to get north. Coming from Yamagata Friday evening or early Saturday.

On the Sunday 26th I begin my drive south to Hakuba for the week.

Would be a short meetup but would be dope if I could slot it in and ski you guys.

    That would be AWESOME.

Also the non-mag guy with us is a mag 'Vinster' (i think?), he used to post here. A long time ago his trailer burnt down and his car blew up and everyone here donated skis/clothes/money to get him back on his feet, it was amazing. I knew him before the boards existed when he first moved out west.

That all sounds very much like something that doesn’t surprise me. This place has been amazing forever.

    I’ll do my best.

Booked a last minute trip Mid Feb. Cars are looking thin, anybody have a recommendation of sites that grab a lot of results reliably from Toyota, Nissan, Nippon, etc?

    Asarigawa Onsen with 60cms new

We started the day with 10cms new on the ground in Zenibako where I shoveled Dan and Emi's front porch. It then snowed another 10cms while we made our way to Otaru to check in at the Hotel Inn by the Canal Furukawa. Brisk NWer winds were keeping sea level temperatures at -5 to - 7.

After getting lunch and making our way to Asarigawa it snowed a further 10cms. After starting from base area at 180m asl to 700m at the top lift it kept snowing another 6cms/ hour for the next 3.5 hours while we finished off an afternoon of pow, leaving with between 40 - 60cms of new snow.

It was fun watching the junior high school kids learning how to ski deep light pow and skiing that same pow.

30cms at Kiroro the day before. But with no new snow, storm snow had settled to 15cms but with surprisingly little wind even in the gullied backcountry S and SE of Kiroro resort.

We did 2 laps meandering ridgelines and skiing first a mellow NE then a more committing Kiroro AK face E. Lots of groups out enjoying the sun and pow plus a few intrepid hard working local snowboarders bootpacking up deep pow

Broke that up with a civilized lunch at the Premier Cafe. $20Cad buys pork belly rice bowl with drink, onion chip, heavy on croutons Caesar salad. Beats the pants off Whistler food & prices.

Unlimited visibility. -8 @ base at 620m. -10 @ 1050. Winds light from NW in morning to nil later during day.

Four yabanji go cruising at Otaru Tenguyama. Minus 5 at base ( 82m) and peak. Mini little place with high value views. Lots of people due to weekend crowds but we got up early to avoid the sightseeing gondola crowd then over to chairlifts.

2 full days after new snow and there's still fresh hits in treed areas between runs and runs off the gondola. Just keep your heads up for creeks open and cracks.

Winds nil. Clear in morning. Cloudy afternoon but still cold. Snow still in fantastic shape. What a nice bonus day.

Views from top of Otaru were some of the best. Those chairs were so much fun getting on and off

Second inquiry, Where are you guys generally hoping you'll be Friday the 31st, Sat 1st, and Sun 2nd? Still in JP?

I'll be heading back north through Tohoku from Hakuba those three days, maybe even earlier around Wednesday or thursday the 29/30th.

5 yabanji go to Kokusai. A one way uplift on the gondola for 2500Y gets you up to 1000m.

Another series of quick skins gets you up to 1200m. Winds light at ridgeline. ESE slopes were starting to snowball but still skied well. A series of NE slopes held good snow with alder only getting into play at around 800m. It definitely warmed up with base at zero, and ridgeline at -2. Still no meaningful wind effect

An engaging luge ride side-luging the Asaridakesougo River puts you back down to Kokusai base in short order.Click image for larger version.
