    It’s an Icelandic delicacy.

The flesh is toxic… but if you bury it in the sand and let it ferment for several weeks, then hang it to dry for ~6 months, and *then* aren’t deterred by the ammonia stench, it’s… edible.

There’s a little museum on the topic on an incredibly scenic day road trip from Reykjavík:

Iceland was the only place Bourdain literally gagged on the food, I think it was the shark that did him in.

Nope. Needs a head and tail to measure, otherwise not legal to keep regardless of size.

Think about it for a minute and it makes sense. If you could keep oversized fish as long as the chunk you have measures ok what would stop people from chopping off the tails and tossing them back..

This thread has sent me down about a half dozen Wikipedia spirals in the last couple days. Sleeper Sharks may not be dangerous to us but they are sure as shit creepy.

Of course, I should have searched this earlier

Hudson is way upriver too. They say the river is salty to Poughkeepsie but this is much further north.

Please tell me there are sharks in upstate. That type of cross-thread coverage in our wiki specialties will really put us on the map.

They’ve found bull sharks over 1,000 miles up the Mississippi and I think even further up other rivers.

The only thing missing from that picture is an actual shark fin. The least they could do in the article is draw one in with a Sharpie.

You didn’t see the fin in the video clip? As backwoods amateur video accounts go, this one is pretty good with an extended shot of the fin swimming. You can even tell it’s the sloped dorsal of a bull shark.

We were charter fishing with down-riggers for salmon out of Bodega Bay in northern california and we hooked a thresher shark. The body was about 3 feet long. The guide brought it up to the side of the boat, stabbed it in the gills, let it bleed out until we believed it was dead. But it wasn't dead. The thing laid in the cooler for several hours before dying. Blew my mind. I just remember thinking "What the fuck does it take to kill a shark?" It was practically beheaded already.
