I had the unfortunate chance to witness this attack during the final days of my vacation in Egypt. What struck me the most was how similar it was to two scenes from the movie "Jaws". First, there was the scene when the shark attacked a girl, dragging her through the water and violently shaking her in all directions. Then, there was the scene where the shark went after a boy who was on a float.
In the initial attack, the shark seized the poor Russian guy, pulling him through the water and shaking him vigorously in every direction. Eventually, the shark managed to flip the guy over, where you could see his legs for a brief moment. What was truly horrifying, though not visible in the footage, was how the shark had him gripped around the middle and torso before flipping him. The shark's teeth are like saws, designed to latch onto its prey and then tear the flesh with sudden, jerky movements, similar to a handsaw. I can only imagine the shark attempted to do just that when it flipped him over. It seemed like the shark had vanished momentarily, but surprisingly, the Russian boy emerged and started calling out for his father's help. At that moment, the shark reappeared, and the size of its dorsal fin and tail made it clear just how massive it was compared to the boy. I thought it was impossible for him to escape that situation, and unfortunately, that turned out to be the case.

Then, the shark approached the Russian boy from behind and clamped its jaws around his shoulder, right beside his head. It swiftly dragged him underwater, while vigorously slapping the water with its tail, as clearly seen in the video, before disappearing with its prey. It all unfolded rapidly, and many people who watched the footage criticized the delay of the boat that came to the boy's rescue. However, the truth is that the entire incident took place within a matter of seconds, in less than a minute. The boat set off as soon as the attack began but arrived too late.
Regardless, I believe that even if the boat had arrived immediately after the initial attack, the boy would not have survived. The bite inflicted significant internal damage, making it an excruciatingly painful way to die.

Another unfortunate aspect was the absence of any shark warning signs or indications of a safety net for tourists in the area. I don't recall seeing any such signage during my time there. I had conversations with locals about sharks, and they assured me that it was safe and there was no cause for concern. However, I had heard about previous shark attacks in that region of the Red Sea, which is why I didn't even consider swimming within a few meters of the shore.

It's possible that the boy was unaware of the potential hazards of swimming far from the shore on that particular beach, as there were no signs or indications of the presence of sharks. It is my hope that the Egyptian authorities will take greater responsibility and install some form of shark signage in the area. I also hope that, in time, the boy's family can find solace and peace.

I’m going to have to watch that one, I know last Summer 2022 there were 2 fatalities in generally the same area. I’m wondering if this is going the way of Recife, Brazil where they have had a big problem with sharks and it’s been attributed to dumping from nearby port development.

I fell asleep during the snow but from what I recall it’s oceanic white tips coming into the shallows for some reason. Handful of nasty fatalities/attacks.

The Shark Weeks were fun at first but these shows are all getting a bit tired.

Why did this shark attack Bobby on this particular day at this particular time?

Oh I dunno I'm no shark expert, but shit, perhaps it's because Bobby was dressed like a seal in a black wetsuit and the shark just happened to be hungry and cruising by?

I will say that having a boy of a certain age, this is prime programming for him.

Granted he's off at sailing camp and hopefully not interacting with actual sharks but I'll fill him in when I see him.

Apparently tomorrow’s lineup has a show called, I shit you not, “Florida Shark” that follows “Cocaine Shark”.

Pretty sure this is either singularity or some kind of fucking sign.

Saw a stat that ocean water temps had reached 100F in a spot in S. FL this past w/e. This could be making sharks cranky. 100F makes me cranky.

I was just in a hotel hot tub (yea I’m rich) that was 100 degrees. I can’t believe the ocean could be that warm, that’s insane. My daughter could only go in up to her waist because it was too hot for her (sunburned skin didn’t help). Terrible but I’d kind of like to swim in it for a day.
