What the fuck is this gibberish? Stop with these pseudo idiot posts that are just subtle humble brags of "can you believe I put the the 5.3 bumper in this 5.29 spacer that I machined in my garage CNC after 6 IPAs one night on a whim hahaha what was i thinking I'm soooo stupid" bullshit.
This thread is for people like JME (and me) trying to put a 29 tire on a 27.5 wheel or whatever.

I won’t say every time, but probably 1 in 3 times I go out without a tube, I flat.
Same goes for no knee pads, and I wreck big.
It’s kind of a reverse super power. Like the one that causes bad things to happen when I masturbate.

However many are in a shit ton.
Been f@#$ing with my rear derailleur on and off for weeks, was going in circles, finally cave and bring it to the lbs. Won't have it back until at least Wednesday, and we have unseasonably beautiful weather for the next several days.
Note to self - if you're not getting it after an afternoon's work, or maaybe two separate sessions, just admit you don't have the skill and take it to a pro.
I use knee and elbow always on the trails but it doesnt get that hot up here, I've seen people write on TGR they don't wear padz when its too hot ?

This. Even knowing full well from past experience that if I do OTB, 9/10 times if you're wearing sleeve style knee pads with shorts, the sleeve will tear right above the pad, fold down and do fuckall for saving your knees. I went out for a ride yesterday after dropping the kid off at a friend while my wife is traveling, and even dialing things way back because I couldn't afford to have anything go wrong, I still wore knee pads for that lucky rabbit's foot effect.
IME there is no way to know when a rock or a root will jump out on the trail, its like a mtn biking equivilent of the " Snow snake " last time I think I smacked my head and my jaw hurt for awhile but all the pads stayed in place/ no blood
IME go to a real bike store to try a bunch of pads on in different sizes to get the padz that fit the very best and pay the guy list for them, thats right NO coupon codes, oh the humanity !
For me that is the Dakine knee sleeves and I wear them always, so comfy I'm even wearing them in the bar because I'm not taking my 5/10s off to suck on an IPA but I don't recommend the Dakine to you, I recommend you find some that actualy fit/ wrok for you

That's a thing, for sure. Dialing it back means everything is actually different than what you're used to, especially on trails you've ridden hundreds of times, which gives you more chance for shit to go wrong.
The list of pads (which all fit properly and were very snug) that I've had the sleeve tear right above the insert on the silly thin spandex sock:
7iDP Sam Hill (at least 1, maybe 2 pair)
TLD Stage
Fox Enduro (couple years ago)
Rapha Trail (2 different pair, because they are so comfortable otherwise that I keep buying them)
The only pair of sleeve style pads I've had a big OTB where the sleeve didn't tear are the new-ish Fox Launch Elites - those the sock is a thicker, tougher material, and I've got 1 pair where a crash made a tiny little hole but didn't scalp the insert.
Really, the solution would be for me to suck less, but let's be reasonable here.
It's kinda funny that you semi frequently go on these rants about how important it is to wear pads, but the pads you wear are super thin minimalist things that might reduce some scrapes, but aren't going to do much in any kind of real impact.
But obviously do whatever works for you.

you don't have to wear pads but I do
so do you just bare back it ?
for trail riding all i need is padz that fit properly and protect against scrapes & impacts which they do
I think any kind of real impact yer gona be fucked anyway
but what is real, what are you suggesting, what are you selling ?
So I forget what happened here but everytime i put on this fine dakine product i think ... that would have hurt
a dab of unicorn cum and cover with a plastic bag til it cures and all fixed eh !

I'm always knee padded up, but nothing on the bi-tri. Maybe a bubble wrap suit would be good. My biggest concern is my wife shaking her head about me bleeding on the sheets...again![]()
IME even if I don't go down the elbow-to-wrist elbow pads kept long sleeve jerseys from getting torn up riding between trees that are < 760mm apart
that wound looks pretty manly

I can't ever get elbow pads to stay up.
Attachment 502634
This was done while wearing elbow pads. Unfortunately, they were protecting my wrists at the time.
at least your ^^ wrist was OK
Padz aren't going to do much in any kind of real impact, so bleed on eh
I'm using some sleeve type wrist-to-above-elbow with velcro strapage above elbow and at wrist so they really got no where else to go
while I am an idiot, I am just smart enough to buy padz that so far have worked

So, I just fell out of my boat…. Head first…. In my driveway. That’s not easy to do.
It’s headed off to storage next week and I was winterizing and getting ready to go. There was a tool sitting on the trailer tongue and I thought that I might be able to reach it by leaning over the bow. I guess not. It seemed like slow motion and I think I did a bit of a somersault when I landed. Fortunately I had a thick sweatshirt on since I hit my forearm first. No major damage done other than my pride.
Can anyone recommend some good elbow pads for this application?

That might do it.

My spur needs some work so I decided to pull the Rail off the wall for my ride today. Loaded it up and drove over to the trailhead. When I pulled it out of the truck to put the front wheel on I noticed there was no front brake on the truck. I'd taken it off to bring with me as a spare on my last road trip and hadn't ridden the Rail since. Went for a hike instead.
