That's insane. Maybe hyperbole, but I don't think there's anyone else in the history of the NBA who makes that pass. He's a genius.

I'm sure that duo has worked on that in practice.

You've seen a perfectly executed 3/4 length alley oop from out of bounds before? Or are you just saying that someone else could have made that pass?

    No.

I did see on TV a perfectly executed in motion blind behind the back cross court pass from Isaiah Thomas to Jae Crowder for a corner 3 against I think it was the Bucks in 2016-ish +/-. It was impressive and it's why I watch basketball. I keep chasing the dragon hoping to see plays like that.

That Jokic pass was amazing (and likely a top play for this season), reminded me of this Stockton to Malone full-court pass in the 97 NBA finals:

The only difference is the Bulls and MJ aren't walking back on defense when the pass is made like Grizzlies were for that Jokic pass.

Both. There were some plays like that (from out of bounds way back court) between CP3 and Blake Griffin back in the Clippers' Lob City days. Anyway, great play regardless.

According to Chuck, after 1/2 of a game of basketball the Warriors were already cooked for the season. Speaking of hyperbole, his schtick is really starting to get old.

Jokic throws these types of pass pretty regularly. The precision of that alley oop was way different as it has to be perfect (as the receiver can't just adjust speed/angle). I'm not saying that no one else could have thrown it (I think Kevin Love would have been a good candidate as well as CP3), but that was one heck of a pinpoint pass and they disguised it well while clearly he and Gordon saw it.

Edit: In service of this thread, I've heroically watched this Youtube video of longest NBA lobs: https://youtu.be/kAkl3ibjrcU?si=uxEoz6Klx73Hh5ik

It's fun in itself, but you can see the difference between Jokic's pass and most of the (excellent) passes in the compilation. Almost all of them are thrown chest pass/heave style with the players momentum already going toward where they want the ball to go. Jokic here starts facing perpendicular so as to disguise his intentions then just kind of pivots a bit and throws a baseball style pass right on the money. The only passes in the comp that are similar are DWade to LeBron for layups (first pass in the video then a second at 6:50 or so). They aren't quite close enough for LeBron to dunk, but still excellent, excellent passes and the announcer starts to explain in one of the clips why a baseball pass is so much trickier to throw than most lobs, which applies here too, especially when - like Jokic's - they're coming in at an angle rather than directly over the shoulder so a player can adjust their speed to the flight of the ball and still be on line.

So in conclusion, my new choice for who could throw that pass is DWade, though Love was also an excellent baseball passer - often from baseline out of bounds. Hmm, maybe it helps to have an elite receiver as well for those type of passes. Gordon is about as good a lob finisher as you're going to find and LeBron like in his ability to get up, catch the ball, and finish, even when there is contact.

Yeah, Wade's pass(es) was closest. But all of them were made during a live ball. Jokic got the ball from the ref, after a stoppage, and like you say isn't even facing the play. I watched that whole youtube, and none of them were on the same level.

Great player making a phenomenal pass. Not unique in the NBA.

Anyone hear who the third team was with the additional first round draft pick is? Could really flavor the trade depending what it is.

Not the exact pieces I'd want in return for harden, but glad that saga is over. Sixers definitely picked up some nice role players and hopefully, Maxey can make a leap this season. Draft capitol is nice, but the sixers need to win now. Always liked Robert Covington so glad he's back in a sixers uni. Kinda surprised the clippers acquired harden as I thought their team was playing pretty good this season and harden could definitely disrupt that, but this trade seemed inevitable.

I think the Sixers pivoted from "players who could help them" to "players we can aggregate in all the trades". They have a mix and match of salaries and picks for another trade.

As for the Clips, I think the fact that they were playing well may have been what pushed them to make the trade.

I thought a bunch of the acquired players were on expiring contracts, so if no in season trade, it will be all about the cap space next summer..

Hmm. That 2024 free agent class isn't exactly blowing my skirt up. https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/

He may be angling for some kind of trade package. And they'll also have to pay Maxey a lot more money after this season (he'll be RFA) and then figure out what to do with Tobias Harris. With Morey who the heck knows, he can be a magician.
