Hard to prepare for something you've never thought about, let alone experienced, before.

I'd heard that fires were triggered in the town itself by downed lines. Sounds like the fire's propagation speed was super fast - hard to react quickly to such rapid onset. Add the confusion and mayhem created by just the 85 mph winds, no way you could have organized any serious evacuation.

    Yeah it’s heartbreaking.

A friend over there involved in the volunteer world recommended this for donations: https://www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/maui-strong

I've seen the same group recommended for donations elsewhere.

Locals are getting restless. Man the conspiracy rumors floating around, space lasers and shit, it’s not like they trusted anyone before. The town will be set afire again if developers and politicians role in and don’t work with them.

So shitty they lost their houses while the mansions that sit empty were spared. Sucks to be Hawaiian.

You guys are so reactive to anyone with a different opinion, wtf. I'm reading CE as saying the locals are pissed, not that the conspiracy theories are true. And that politicians/developers better rebuild for them and not just cut them out put up hotels and more mansions. Valid points I've read in the NYT or the Washington Post - can't remember.

    Wildfire 2023

Anyone that brings up conspiracy theories is a fucking idiot.

9/11 inside job, space lasers, chemtrails….just shut the fuck up and take that bullshit elsewhere.

Or better yet, start a conspiracy theory thread so you can swim in your own shitcloud with the other dimwits and not cunt up a wildfire thread.

Oh, and if conspiracy theories mean “different opinions” then all i can say is “bless your heart”.

Talking about Hawaiian locals who believe in conspiracy theories is not the issue here. The issue he's talking about is if all the locals have their rentals or whatever replaced by hotels, air bnbs, restaurants, etc. Which will happen to some extent, right?

or just never mind me you guys are a bit tightly wound about CE.

I was doing structural protection a couple years ago when I met my first "conductive energy weapon" proponent.

He said it was a plan to de-populate rural areas as rural folks were a threat to government/corporate control of global food supply.

I was on duty, but really wanted to ask, if that were true - why did forest fires take out suburbs, cities (within a few years of Ft Mac.), and towns. Not a lot of Ag going on in Ft. Mac.

He believed that he had seen the lightning strike - and the colour was green when "real lightning" is blue.

He also didn't seem to notice that we were trying to protect his and his neighbour's houses and were being paid by the government that apparently wanted to burn him out.

It is a weird diplomacy that has to go on out there.

I have more respect, I think, for the people that say get lost we will take care of ourselves than these folks that say the government is out to get us, while begging for (or even just accepting) our help.

I can't imagine what the first responders went through in Maui. My heart goes out to them and the other residents affected. This will stay with them forever.

Can’t imagine how bad it would be if there hadn’t been an ocean for people to go get in. Sounds like dozens of not hundreds took refuge in the water.

Who is cunting up the thread? Little bitch.

Hey dumb ass, there are a lot of conspiracy theories in Hawaii. Not mine, but they’ve got a right to them. They’ve been fucked over. And they’ll be a lot more In the rebuilding. They don’t trust anyone.

Last I checked, it's primarily property owners who decide what will be built. They employ the developers. Politicians have some control via zoning laws, but I'll be surprised if the electorate pushes for more zoning after a disaster. The locals likely want less so they can rebuild their unpermitted properties. My guess is the tourist trap development that was there was fairly profitable and will mostly be rebuilt in some form. If fire resistance becomes a priority, the cheap construction loved by locals will be rare. Also, it's hard not to notice the bayside resort property is one of the few still standing. Tough time to be a politician - damned no matter what you do.

In other fire news, California had lightning last night. Not expecting strong north winds so probably nothing happens.

Last I checked, all of us here know this too. We can debate semantics or talk about locals being pushed out due to old houses becoming reborn as new expensive rentals, or just being replaced by something more profitable for the owners/developers - if zoning allows them. I think locals who own houses may just sell the property and never rebuild, and I doubt the new owners will put up shacks for locals to live in. Anyways, I can't imagine losing everything you own as a renter/owner and not being able to afford to move back or rebuild, whatever the case may be. Politicians will be blamed for not controlling capitalism, damned no matter what they do as you said.

I have no idea what you are talking about, maybe I should have ignored this thread today.
