I was in vegas for the bike trade show several years ago- early 2000’s and my vanagon broke down (which will come as a big surprise)
It was in the PF Chang’s parking lot so I just slept in it but in the middle of the night I heard the jangling of the bike lock on the back of the van and had to scare some junkies away. No gun but I summoned my best demon voice and sounded really big. worked.

A buddy and I had the same thing happen to us while sleeping in my VW van in Lone Pine, CA. Slid open the door and jumped out with our ice axes raised and the bike thieves hightailed it outta there. [emoji3]

I just took a Uhaul across Nevada a few months ago. My choice was to stay at a small motel in a small town (Battle Mountain NV, in my case, where I was able to park the car and trailer, straddling parking spots, right outside the room). Had it not been winter, I would have camped somewhere (rather remote, certainly not on the outskirts of a city) instead.

Spend a couple extra bucks for a room at a decent place on the strip. Roll up like the Vegas hillbillies and valet. A rig that large they’ll have to park out front and they’ll watch it all night for you.

I’m only half joking. I think this would probably actually work with only mild shit talking by the doormen/valet.

I did the bike show in 04 and Vegas was fun, we went back in 19 on the way in/out of Moab and it was expensive not fun,

IMO the OP would not be missing anything if he gave it a pass,

There is even a Vegas guy with a selfy stick who comes on my feed and tells me not to come to vegas cuz its expensive and they are seriuosly nickel and dimeing the customer

I spent a single night in Vegas back in early April, hadn't actually stopped in Vegas in years. If I were to do it again I'd take the advice posted upthread and stay in Summerlin - either at the Red Rocks or an Airbnb in a gated community.

Thanks for the advice. Ended up staying in a nice area of Henderson and putting the bikes in our room. Made it out alive

Stay in an airbnb where you can park in a driveway. Back the uhaul right up against a wall where it can't really be opened and unloaded
