FRs with some Volkls, perhaps the OG in this shape/design. Super fun Tuesday in a shit load of fresh snow.

186 FR110’s just popped up in the Outlet. Oh nevermind, they’re sold… to me. So psyched!

I restrained myself when a pair of 180’s popped up a while ago, but couldn’t help myself this time with the 186’s.

Drilled for Pivots at my bsl and I have a shiny new pair of Super Editions that have been waiting for the right ski to come along.

Will 105 Pivot brakes fit the FR110 or should I go 115?

105s for sure, I started with 115s on mine and swapped them out when I found some 105s, which are a perfect fit.

So, Ive got about 10 days on the 180 AM110 proto/pre-production model. Settled on swapping out my 187 FRs for these. Marshal was gracious enough to let me ski them before deciding. I’m having no issues with the current flex profile.

It’s hard to do a direct comparison of the AMs and FRs as I sized down. I definitely notice a more engaged edge on hard snow but they still feel loose in soft snow. They are not nearly as pivoty as the FRs, but still pretty good. I suspect the difference in on snow feel of the Rs and AMs is very subtle. It’s pretty cool that the FRs, Rs, and AMs all exist with essentially the same dimensions.

I think the FRs were phenomenal skis, and I was leaning towards keeping them as my soft snow sticks. But, I wanted a ski I could grab for any condition. The combination of the weight, length and rocker profile wasn’t clicking with me in firm or variable. I’m 5’8” 175 for reference.

With the AM’s I get better hard snow performance with some soft snow trade off. But, I’ve still had a blast with these on some deep days at Alta. In conclusion, the AM110s are my new DD.

Makes sense wanting a touch of camber for UT or the West Coast terrain layout.

Tohoku for me is a combo of trees or groomers. Usually softish snow. The RDimes have killed it all season as my DD.

But I can easily admit that a less tight/techy place like mammoth or snowbird would ask me for some camber under foot for off-piste.

Regardless of your camber choice— this core layup is the shizzle. The poppy/damp ratio is quite the wide spectrum.

My most recent day was last week after a rain event on fresh groomers. Remember— the first hours of a rain event results in fast snow before it gets saturated. My dimes absolutely shredded GS lines all morning.

    It’s the core.

Does anyone have any comparisons between the R110’s and the last generation Volkl Gotamas?

I have a pair of 2015 186 Gotamas that I have never skied that I picked up from the reuse it centre for under $100 mostly for the Rossignol FKS 140’s that were on it.

Now realizing they might be an ancestor of the R110 based on somewhat similar dimensions and full low rocker. Volkls are lighter.

I should probably remount them for my BSL and give them a shot.

    Hey Marshal,

Been meaning to email you some ski ideas.

Dumb question now. Is the Super Nova 110 flat or full rocker (eg is it the R110 or FR110) or does it have camber? Looking at the 174 for my wife for next year. Cant tell from the website.

    KC.

Man... I don't know what I'd do if I had access to both. Question-- what color are your pants? Because if they're a boring earthy color, you are gonna be bummed every time you look down at your skis. /haha. /askmehowIknow. KC-- check the Super Nova page again... the profile pic shows two distinct horizontal lines indicating contact points, implying there is a small camber pocket. I don't mean to speak for MO, but just saying. (I think I need two pair of SN OneHun for my wife and daughter. Basically set them up for life.)

^i personally love having black/grey outerwear with super colorful FRs. Makes the skis really stand out

Skied 31” of fluff at Whistler on the FR110s this weekend. Did I wish they were wider/longer? Sure. But man it was fun to have that ultimate pivot and experience the full depth of that much snow. Had an insane time.

KC, I believe the SN110 is the AM110 profile. I do not think the 100s are the same though.

I hope its not misinformation or out of line to repost, but this is the reply I got from Marshal when I asked the same question about the Supernova

So I did a 1.5mm camber pocket for 50% of the ski. then outside of that (the other 50% of the ski) has the same tip/tail height (7cm/4cm) and splay at widepoints (0.5mm / 0.35mm) as the R110.

Soft Snow Gymkhana - The Heritage Lab FR110

Thanks guys. I did see the pic on the HL site Gaijin and ya it looked like a bit of camber. Just wanted to confirm.

My 183 cm UT 122 and 180 cm BC 110 both arrived yesterday and my wife was like wow those are beautiful topsheets. I told her Marshal has made some skis just for her. She currently skis a a 172 cm Nordica Enforcer and a 176 cm Black Crows Anima. The 174 cm Supernova 110 would slot nicely between those two.

I got the factory tune on my FR110 and wasn't really loving them. They didn't feel surfy at all (like most were describing) and instead were pretty locked in. Combined with the weight, they actually felt pretty lethargic.

I bought a 1.5 degree base bevel guide and increased the base bevel from 1 to 1.5 degrees; they feel way looser now. I haven't gotten them out in soft snow yet but even on firm, chalky snow they are way easier to slarve around on. We have snow coming in this week and I'm excited to try them in some fresh!

For anyone interested I’m selling my pair of
like new 186 FR110s. Sweet ski, “video game mode” describes them perfectly.

The R110 is hilariously most fun ski ever. And it is fast as fuck. I was bouncing back and forth between this and an Atris, live in the Roaring Fork Valley. I don't get how it can be that much fast than the Atris everywhere, carve and hold edge better on Highland warm up groomers, snake through Deep Tem trees, lay down giggly big ass high speed turns down the Bowl. Cut up pow it is just giggly fun, drop it down whatever and just go. If there is a more fun ski out there let me know, I'll take two.

Just skied the last storm cycle at Whistler. Lots of fresh, skied the last 5 days with lots of good coverage everywhere. Skied all over Whistler and Blackcomb. Big ski days. Exhausted. Only ski I used was the FR110.

Taking a couple of days off and then heading back up Thurs. for 5 more days. Prolly gonna just ski them again. May need a second pair.
