Damnit, damnit, damnit. I fear this may be Tito's last season driving the ship.

It was announced today that Francona has already scheduled shoulder replacement surgery and not one but two hernia surgeries once the season is over. Prior their game 1 win over the Dodgers a couple nights ago, Tito mentioned that he's been having very in-depth succession conversations with Chris Antonetti and Mike Chernoff and that it's getting harder for him health-wise to get through the grind of a season. Tito has a very unique open-ended contract with the Guards that allows him to stay as long as he wants.

I'm going to hate life after him in the dugout, that's for sure. I remember what it was like to have a Manny Acta as the skip.

so he doesn't pitch until August2024...

does he continue to bat this season ? Or

    Just shut it down (?)
Sounds like he may bat. Harper did it last year before his Tommy John surgery in the offseason, but with the Angels out of the playoffs (probably), might make sense to get to treatment immediately in order to be ready for next year.

Just hoping that whatever it is, he can get back to pitching eventually.

The Sox announcers are eulogizing Tito. They are convinced this is it for him.

Damnit, part of me is holding out hope that they pull their heads out of their asses, go on a small run to win the shitty division and send Tito out on a good note that leaves him itching for “just one more year”.

They were making it sound like he thinks his health is keeping him from managing the way he wants to, which, credit to him for recognizing that and not holding out for years and years anyway.

I hear Aaron Boone may be available next year for the Guards.

This season is setting up to have one of the more exciting Septembers that I can remember. In the NL we have 5 teams fighting for 2 wild card spots all within 2.5 games with the Padres also lurking. Not as many teams in the AL wild card race but just as tight. AL West looks like it is going to be a dogfight. Mookie and Acuña neck and neck for the MVP. The Shohei news is a total bummer, but it’s still been a fun season.

Yeah, Antonetti and Chernoff (Front office) were on the Guards broadcast yesterday and Tito sat down with Guard's beat reporter Paul Hoynes and they all said the same things. This is a conversation that has been going on for a couple years.

It's easy to forget that Tito missed all but 14 games in 2020, and a big chunk of 2021. He's had heart surgery, staph infections, foot surgery, hip surgery, blood pressure/heart issues...

Man I wish we could send him out with a World Series win, but that's fantasy. I'm just super thankful that we had him for 11 great years where all he did was find ways to win.

Going to be impossible to replace him and the tone he sets for this team.

(and please, no Aaron f'ing Boone)

Another ring would for sure have been the goal, but for Tito, it really is more about the friends you terrorize along the way.

Mookie is the MVP front runner, easily.
Does Acuna play catch with fans in Cleveland between innings?
Does Acuna provide elite defense in multiple positions?

Will Acuna catch Mookie in OPS, HR, RBIs, fWAR, bWar, etc?

Ha! No truer words. I’m always so amused when they show Tito saying hi to someone and then the broadcast producer has to very quickly hammer on the bleep button and cut to something else while Tito’s target is bent over in laughter.

That’s the kind of shit we’ll never be able to replace.

Standing ovation for Mookie in Fenway was pretty cool. Has the ever been a more universally beloved player?

It’s impossible to not love mookie. He’s too good and too wholesome. Everyone blames management for letting him walk.

Yeah. That’s true, though it was only after the contract negotiations broke down

I wasn’t sold on JT when they signed him, but he’s been great. Total professional every day.

Once again, FUCK MLBTV and its blackout policy. ESPN decided to air the Giants/Braves game tonight so now it is blacked out.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

    Great day at Fenway today.
The NLMVP crushed a 2run HR Over the Monster before jogging out to play his second position of the day.
Dodgers get the W, family had a blast
