If that keeps up they'll get shit canned for Pivots (I'm a fanboi that was talked into Strives).
Definitely interested in the collective’s Strive experiences and I’m repeating myself, but one day on a Strive demo for me in soft snow featured a really inexplicable feeling toe release. My wife had the same basic release mechanism in her one day on a demo Strive. Kinda thinking that anyone who has had problems with the Shift (mine got pulled 2 years ago, hers 1 year ago) should stay away from the Strive.

We’re both mediocre skiers by TGR standards though.

Edit: just saw the update from snowmachine when I finished reading the thread, glad they work for you. Anyone else on these?

I have been skiing Look Pivots for over 25+ years, love them just as much as I did when I first tried them.

FWIW, I've prereleased numerous times from Shifts. Mine will be replaced eventually and are currently touring only. I think I'm mounting STH2's today since I have a set left. If I can find a good deal on Pivot's I could go that way, too.

I love my Pivots also. I think they are the best binding although STH2s are pretty fucking good also. The only thing I hate about Pivots is getting back into them in deep snow or at any kind of an angle. With the STH2 you kinda aim for the heel and everything usually lines up and you're in. With Pivots if there is any angle to your ski or snow in the heel (or toe) system it's a pain in the ass.

    Alpine bindings - current best?

Late to the game on Pivots. Skied my pair maybe 10 days last year, but this year I’ve got 30 days in my Pivot 14s. It’s gonna be hard for me to try any other binding. I wish there was a lightweight version as I’m actually not that hard on gear anymore.

Corbett's has limited widths on Attack2 13's for $100 USD right now. Brake widths limited in black color. Cheaper than the last two I bought from them. Just bought another to have on hand for a future ski buy.

I picked up a new '4FRNT' (it is in a Tyrolia box) [A] 95mm brake on Amazon for $30 as well. Or you can normally find them for $35+ship on L9:

Just reach down and pull the heel piece up.

Yup, then ski down to a flatter, less snowy spot and clean your boots off and click back in. Easy, peasy.

My $160 STH's found their way on to new skis this week. Skied them today. I like STH's.

I'm curious why. I have a lot of days on mine without issue. Maybe I'm not heavy enough (155lbs) or ski hard enough. Nice solid engagement and no questionable releases.

I haven't put enough days on any single set to comment on durability compared to Pivots (the gold standard IMO). I hate to say it, but at $170 I'll probably just sell them off with my old skis as they time out (whereas I'll move Pivot's to their next home). I did just let go of some P14 Forzas because the paint was hammered (ahhhh Pivot paint quality).

Guessing he's referring to the new AFD. Probably not a terrible feature for many people, but if you've learned to expect what the old STH gave, the new AFD is not the same, and also has a different delta.

A combo of the new AFD and using CAST has recently had me make the switch from STH > Pivots exclusively now

Edit: I'll also add that I despise GripWalk now. I've taken it off of my boots and am much happier back on 5355 soles. Probably related to other people being disappointed with the new AFD on the STH.

Are you referring to the MNC STH's? The WTR is a fixed AFD.

My Lange Grip Walk boots all have a hard plastic contact point for the AFD. I really dont notice any difference compared to my older, non Grip Walk RX's.

I've been wanting to try CAST to replace my Shift's, but I dont love jumping back and forth from STH > Pivot. The change in ramp takes me some time to adjust to.

Just watched the blister video talk about bindings. It was mainly about touring bindings but there was plenty of talk about alpine bindings. Both Lars and Hoji told everyone to wear cat tracks on their alpine boots to preserve the functionality of their alpine bindings. Guess those beaters and ski schoolers constantly bending over to put those things on have been on to something

Pivot 15s rock. Cast system rocks. I don’t see ever changing.

While we're on the topic of alpine bindings (and don't think this question needs a new thread) but anyone notice Kye prefers xcomps over Royal bindings? Think he was riding them in a Kye Shapes promo vid as well when he was still signed with Marker Products at the time.

Never raced and have zero knowledge of race bindings, but what would make him prefer it over Griffs/Jesters? I assumed xcomps and 'race' bindings are to be used with lifter plates? Stock photos do make it seem like they have less stack (without lifters) compared to the Royal family.

The XComp goes to 30 & the 3 point mount placed the screws under the boot & flexes really well, it’s why SuperG & DH skiers love em.

I’ve been using them since my first season skiing at Whistler, which can involve a bunch of walking on pavement to get to the lifts. Halfway through that season, I noticed a good amount of side to side rotational play when I stepped into my bindings and realized it was because my boot soles were worn.

Has anyone tried using heel shims to get the pivot ramp angle / binding delta the same as on an STH2?

New Elan ripstick 96 blackness planks inbound, gonna get me back on some carbon. STH2 clampers in the box from a few years ago will get the call.

I do like my pivots tho, I would maybe spring for some rasta skittle ones if they price drop.

So I was looking at over 250$ for a new binding at the ski shop instead I found a set of Salomon rocker 2's with STH 14's for 125 $ at the ski swap, pretty much exactly what I was looking for

The ski and binding look to be in really good shape, I have no idea what a rocker 2 is like but I will probably swap the STH14's over to my Lotus 120's,

Vague rumors of a new Pivot in Gear Swap. A horse shoe heel? Posting in Tech Talk so those in the know can spill the beta.
