I skied the late shift and yeah, not crowded. It was kinda cold, but not bad, snow was nice-ish. Gullies are filling in a few more lines now which is awesome. This is pretty fucking funny. $1119 for four people, not including lift tix, to follow a ski instructor around in the gullies and east wall. Barf... https://www.summitdaily.com/news/ara...steep-terrain/

Team summit events really mess up the Pali line situation so skied elsewhere yesterday afternoon. I’d assume there is another one happening on the nose soon

If you had to guess, what terrain do you think would be open the last couple of weeks of May?

Most years I am celebrating my birthday at the beach mid may and it is not unusual to coincide with the last weekend for beavers and or pali. If pali is open memorial day it is a bonus but seems like its been a few years. Zuma more regularly open past memorial day for another week maybe 2. Expect black mountain, Len and Zuma.

Thanks. I guess that's pretty good as long as lower east wall and 17 cornices are in the mix off Lenawe, ie most all the way out to the east and the west and not shrunken down.

It really depends on how hot it gets. In recent years, if it gets hot, they shut down everything that isnt a groomer even when there is a ton of snow left. They have even been known to shut down lenawee parks by mid-may for wet slide risk. If it stays relatively cold, a lot could be open.

I blew off work this morning for a rare weekday ski. I finally hit the Steep Gullies (SG1) and managed virgin tracks. Really nice, consistent snow all the way. Better than other windblown spots around the resort. That hike out blows, though.

Ha, yeah the hike out is a really awkward slope angle. I ski resort and bc in AT boots and even in walk mode alot of the hike is just an odd pitch right between walking and climbing! But the gullies are damn fun.

1&2 w/ early exit to the traverse is my usual lap nowadays. Ironic, I used to always make fun of the skiers for doing it, now I'm on skis and traverse out every lap. I had hundreds of laps in 4,3,&5 pre inbounds days. Rarely ski them anymore. The hike isn't that bad, but it is annoying to me. And if you skin that shit you are a fuggin dork.

Yeah I tend to super wog it unless it’s really good then going down can definitely be worth it but it depends on the day for me. I have had that walk out end some days for me by getting super hot down in that protected area to hop back on Pali and then be frozen when I get back to the top. Skied 2nd notch the other day and it’s got a little extra side stepping involved in it right now, winds haven’t been super favorable for east wall lately I think.

Great day up there today. Pretty deep turns through the morning, 4th gully skied amazing. Total powder frenzy on the east wall when it opened around 1. Just wound up doing a lower and the snow was great, the chaos not so much. Wind was doing some favors to make for some great skiing later into the day. Going to get hot this week

Must have skied 30 laps through Gauthier,SG1,&2 this weekend. Kept getting refreshed by wind. Late snow saturday night fell straight down though. Two great days. Legs are toast but i might head up for some EW action this afternoon if I can motivate.

Finally managing to ski myself into shape. sort of. saturday got better with every afternoon lap. stayed out of the gullies cause I miss the sneak into Gauthier half the time and didn't want to waste time hiking out. But skied just about everything else I could think of off pali. Bummed to miss sunday.

Gullies were skiing great this weekend....skied the hell out of 1 & 2 always taking the early traverse out. Also got first tracks down Snorkel Nose yesterday and that didn't disappoint, but setting the Willie's bootpack was pretty tiring. A few of us took turns. It's prime Basin season.

Posting to confirm that SG-2 is still skiing great as of Monday, though the bottom 1/3 is getting a bit firm with the weather warming up. Also, I had no idea that there was an early traverse out of the gullies. Is it when the slope broadens out with little shrubs on the side? Anything that I should keep an eye out for as a landmark?

yeah kinda. if you pay attention in one I am sure you'll find it pretty easily then go from there with two. snow was holding on well in the usual places yesterday with the wind and it not getting TOO warm yet, though it was definitely feeling a little heavier down lower by the end of the day. thinking this morning should still be pretty nice but then it looks like winds will die down and temps will really start to ramp up which may start to change the form of our snow in a hurry. this weekend could be pretty crusty unless we get enough snow. we'll see, definitely trending toward those spring cycles now.

Cmsummit did I ride the lift with ya? ORB sticker on your ski tip?

Yeah, wish I had time to get out more this week. Skiing is great. I do t mind a lil crust and the wind was giving some nice refreshes the last few days.

Bought my ikon for next year. Ugh that is expensive.

Yeah, good day out there. Hopefully a few more left this season. EW and SG season is pretty rad this year. Wish I had more time this spring.

So funny two maggots rode the same chair and didn't even know each other or ski together. This place has changed a lot I guess.

Maybe some yahoos will want to do some laps at Copper next year, but I shouldn't hold my breath.

It's weird meeting people when you are in your fifties. I can't bring myself to ask for change unless I've already taken a lap with someone. I'm heading now to meet a friend of a friend that just moved to golden from FLA. We are going for a "hike". If he doesn't want to smoke a joint I don't know what the fuck we are gonna do.

I was high on mushrooms, and Coors light. But yeah. I meet people on the chairlift all the time and the fact that they might have visited this forum rarely crosses my mind.

Endoo is cool for the record. Good guy to have some beers with at the BML.

Plenty of people that post here mostly observe from a distance. I'm hopeful for some Basin days soon.

EW was pretty nice yesterday, hiked North Pole a few times. Couldn't convince my lazy ass to take the Willy's staircase, maybe today. Pretty heavy snow by the time they opened it around 1p, but skied great. Surprised the Gullies never opened, must have had some wet snow. Hopefully it got cold enough overnight and they can open them today.
