Rewatched a bit of it yesterday. I do like they scored the riders left, generally, like the slope style (with consequences) it is.
A lot of guys riding this stuff with a lot of style now. Getting into the chutes and gaps are setting folks apart.

Bienve was obviously riding to get to the step down then ‘start’ his runs….

Rogakin and Cam both know the venue and the tricks. Cam was giggling a lot when guys would land a big trick, it’s cool to hear them so into it.

I also wonder what Jaxson wanted off of each of his hits.

Completely agree. But, I don’t like the optics of it. Especially in light of many years when it felt like there were extra points awarded for being named Zink, Strait, and Sorge.
Imagine if Richie Rude was going in for post race drug testing, and the nurse asked him for an autograph….

    Claw discussing the judging:

    https://www.pinkbike.com/news/rampag...023-event.html

Everything he says makes sense and seems pretty reasonable. Obviously PB comments are livid.

Watched Bienve's run again. Sizeable 3 drop, big backy, massive fronty, big stretched supernan, air hump to ghost ride. He buttered everything smoother than i am on a pump track. Brendan probably suffered a few pt loss from going to early but i cant find any faults on either of Bienve's laps. Not sure anyone dlse could do that

There are a lot of butt hurt people over the scoring in the comments.

I mean, I don't agree with it all, but it wasn't THAT far off.

Agree with comments above: Zink clear winner (not just the ridiculous backflip, but top and bottom of run as well). Brendog 2nd or 3rd with TVS, because of the technicality of the canyon gap, near vertical run in to downward slope gap over another line, touch down and then have to pull hard on a skinny ass take-off for canyon gap, that is more impressive than the battleship IMO. Carson over-scored IMO.

Listened to Bearclaw on Moving The Needle podcast back to back with Brendog on The Ride Companion podcast.
To me, there's a stark contrast.
Claw is trying so hard to justify Zink winning and to justify Brendog not getting top 3.
Brendog basically said he didn't think he should have won, and he doesn't think he got robbed. Focused on how it's open to each person's interpretation to decide what kind of event Rampage should be. Class act.

Zink winning is fine... TVS/Carson ahead of Brendog is what is confusing and IMO, a mistake in ranking (not caring about score, just the order). Brendan is at least a 3rd if not 2nd ahead of both of those runs.

There was a good snippet from one of the pinkbike guys talking about TVS's line and the caveman drop. He basically said that you could not in a million years convince him to ride a bike off of that starting platform into that line. He said, gun to his head, he'd much rather ride the battleship gap. I think it's just one of those things where it's easier for cameras to capture the gnarliness of the battleship and the canyon gap, but it doesn't quite show how rowdy that entrance to TVS's line is.

Agreed on Carson though - I think personally I would have put Brendog in front of him.

That is too much nuance for internet forums.

caveman has been done before so maybe the gnar factor doesn't compute as much to those of us who would have never even considered that.

I’m about as interested in the opinion of “The Pinkbike Guys” as I am in any regular dude.
Brendog said he was talking to Carson about it. Said it was Carson who pointed out that they did a dozen or so laps on their lines to dial them in for tricks, but that they would never do laps on Brendog’s line.
Also, they literally did a party lap on their line, on TV.

Brendog hit every feature on his line multiple times, and godziak hit the battleship a bunch of times too. The caveman drop only got hit once. Twice, if you count semenuk hitting it last year.

But to your point, yeah, Brendog should've beat Carson.

Its a judged event, its ok for there to be varying ideas of who should be where in the rankings. At the end of the day its where the judges put them, different judges may rank them in different places but thats a different event isn't it?

Arguing about rampage judging is just a hold over for my one true passion: arguing about the judging in Olympic figure skating.

Tldr: According to a slew of notables, Zink rightfully won. That was about the only thing that was unanimously agreed on by everyone who was asked. Brendog maybe should have been a spot higher. Bienve got scored about right.
