TR sort of: Summer pics from Peru

Got back from Peru and Ecuador a few weeks ago. Spend 5 weeks with the girlfriend bouncing around from the mountains to the coast. It was a pretty sweet trip. Some of you gave me some advice before we left. Thanks for that.
Here's some shots of summertime shredding Peruvian style. Who would have thought the desert would be this fun! These are the closest pics to being skiing related that I have.

Summit of the big dune behind our hostel in Huacachina, Peru at 8am. (don't mind the ponch showing from under the shirt)

    Going.....Down

The girlfriend gives it a shot

Heli Boarding Peruvian style. Out in the middle of the desert with the dune buggy. They just kept taking us to bigger and better dunes.

Sunset after a day of boarding.

At the trailhead. Trekking near Huaraz, Peru.

    Hanging out around 14000 ft.

View from the pass. Roughly 16 000+ ft.

Hanging out at the Equator in Equador.

And of course, you can't go to Peru and not go to Machu Picchu

What does boarding on sand feel like? How much control do you have vs. being on snow?

    BL,
Sand is kind of like snow. The board only had velcro straps so everytime I tried to use the heel side edge I'd come off the board. Toe side was pretty sweet though. There weren't metal edges or anything on the board, even if there was I don't think it would bite like on snow. It was definitely fun though. One of the unexpected highlights of the trip.

sweetness. The wife and I just got back from almost the same trip. We did part of the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu then headed over to Quito Ecuador for some shopping at Otovalo and a trip to the Equator. We had a guide to attempt Cotopaxi but the weather was not cooperating and could not make the summit. The best part of the trip was the cruise around the Galapagos Islands. One of the most magical places on earth if you like wildlife and marine life. I have about 800 photos to go through. The only thing I did not like was the food. I was looking forward to it but I was shocked at how bland it was. Trip of a lifetime though.

Sweet pics! As cliche as Macchu Pichu might be, it remains one of the coolest places I've been. Pretty damn impressive, espeically the view from the top!

So, could you ski the dunes too, or just board? That looks pretty damn sweet!
